Ive always been wanting to take really good high quality pictures. of course i try . but fail.
i noticed a lot of people mess around with the settings of their cameras a lot. and i know theres a few HT resident pro-photographers here that could lay down a few pointers and what certain features of a camera do.

If you own a Canon go HERE -----> https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1204649
If you don't, sell what you have and go buy a Canon
Selling my A70 this week to a friend and my A95 should be in next week

my tip is to read the manual. i just got my 20d in the mail today, and after reading the manual, it was a big help. after that i went outside and took some random pictures of plants and cars. most of the time i use manual mode so i can play with the shutter speed/iso/aperature. having a good lens is a plus too. good luck and we should do a photoshoot sometime
Read the manual to get a basic understanding of what the camera can do. Which is a lot with most cameras these days. I've had my camera since the April and I'm STILL figuring out stuff. I basically mess around Fstop and shutter speed. Different effects the camera can do like B&W and countless other things that make the pictures crisp (which is NOT just because of megapixels, which is probably the number one thing I learned when starting out) Good luck and I'm lookin forward to what you come out with!!
