Alright so I went over a speed bump yesterday, not as slow as i usually do, but i wouldn't call it fast by any means...
After i hit the speed bump I was just sitting in the parking lot in my car when i heard a loud engine. I started looking all around to see what car it was... turns out there were no other cars around, and it was my car. I get out and look underneath it and my cat is hanging down.

My B-pipe (i think that's what it's called) cracked right behind my cat. Just wondering if there's any quick fixes or what you guys think i should/could do. This is my daily driver, my 93 civic 4dr with compeley stock everything. I called car-x and they quoted me about $200 to replace my pipe from the cat to the muffler. The bolts connecting the cat to the pipe are rusted on so they have to heat it up and pop them out with a hammer. I called antoher local exhaust shop and they quoted me $19X.

So here's my dilema: Why do I want to spend $200 to just replace a pipe when A) i can either buy somebody OEM exhaust that they replaced with some aftermarket one or B) just get an aftermarket exhaust put in... preferably one without a huge tip or too ricey sounding, it is my daily driver. i don't really want anything obnoxious.

and input would be great.

 

Any cat back exhaust you buy for $200 is going to sound like those terrible Apexi N1 exhausts that make your car sound like a long, furious fart. The few that are quiet, and not totally obnoxions (RSR exmag, Apexi World Sport 2) are going to run you 350+ for the cat back system.

Personally, my b-pipe is rotting out as well, and I'm just going to find a stock b-pipe and replace it myself, even if it means cutting the bolts out with a torch and buying all new hardware. I would go for the $200, especially if they only charge what they quote, because chances are they'll be cutting most of the bolts/hardware, and using all new stuff.

 

midas just did mine for 280, all new hardware and flanges.

 

check out local shops, i bought a used midpipe off a guy for 40bux, and installed it for 60 bucks. so 100 bucks total

What I did when I got a new catback was:
-Disconnect the cat from the header and pulled the entire exhaust off.
-Started to cut away at the rust w/ an airpowered grinder. (I was prepping the new exhaust and my friend started to work away at it). what he did was grind far enough between the cat and midpipe to where there was empty space.

He used a crow-bar and just forced it into the gap after he cut through the bolts.

-Use a grinder to grind off the studs that are in your cat. Make it nice and smooth
-Use a drill press to drill out the old studs and make holes for new bolts.

Just JB weld that MP back together

Ask a muffler shop how much it would be for just a midpipe, or look in the classifieds for someone trying to sell their stock exhaust. Might be hard if you're in a hurry and I don't know how many people on here are selling a 4dr exhaust as 4drs seem to be uncommon.

edit: How long have you had that cat on your car? It will save you a lot of hassle of redoing bolts if you buy a new cat while you're replacing the MP.

 

Or you can just straight pipe your exhaust and save yourself like $150. The muffler shop I got to only charged me like $30 for straight piping my car from the headers all the way back, back in the day.

Yeah, but thats gay, and perhaps this guy doesnt want his car to sound like every other ricey *** exhausted Civic out there, maybe he wants it to sound stock, not shitty.

call up 1-6 and see if they have any b-pipes laying around
