is it easy to replace rod bolts with the engine in the car.
I have been thinking of using arp hardware on my rods as cheap insurance against a spun rod bearing. I have noticed more than a few d17 owners have spun bearings and I don't want to become one. It must be the longer stroke of the d17.
How hard is it to do this on an older d series with the engine in the car? Would a shop be able to knock it out in a couple hours?

Good luck with them in the car.
Take out the rods and take them to a machine shop to have them pressed out and new ones pressed in.
I heard it's possible to press them in yourself but I doubt you can do the rods still in your block

Take them out...
Replace the rings while your at it..
You have to take them out to have the rods resized anyhow. You can press the bolts in yourself, yet then you need to take them to a machine shop and have them resized

Well, it's not like they're hard to get out.
