Default So I'm another newb when it comes to hondas.....

... but I do have some engine mechanic experiance when it comes to old air-cooled vws, and I'm wanting to do some modding to my 89 hatch. Ive done some research and figured it would be easier to learn by doing more of an all motor of setup to learn how to work on a honda and how to drive the damned thing right instead of being your average hondaricer that gives us a bad name.

Now heres the thing, I want to actually go to a junk yard and find a decent engine to swap into my hatch and rebuild it myself ( my dad worked for honda for 6 years so he can help me out) so I actually know whats going on with whats under the hood. I was thinking either a H22a swap or a gsr, but finding a H22a seems like it would be easier. Tell me if I'm wrong or not.

And one more question, around what years should I look for for each engine? Thanks to everyone that helps me out.

Go with a b21a1, they are easy to find at the yards

Seriously.... if you want to go with an H22 do a search, your looking at a ton of work and fab.

Hey man you are getting a serious dose of sarcasm. Any B series will be easier to swap into an 88-91 civic/crx chassis. Serious though go search there is gobs of info out there more than you can digest in one sitting. Do recent topics first and then go into the archived topics. An H series can be do but it requires a lot of fab work. B-series is more of a "drop in" matter. My suggestion is to search you little heart away first....

search here -----> https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch

PS...B21 is custom boring/sleeving not a Honda OEM engine.

FYI: 90's preludes came with the b21a1.... They are known as the worst b-series ever made. Oil burning problems and bad sleeve material..

Take a look at this thread, it covers the best of the best of the b-series swaps. The H swap will be about twice that in price.
