Default auto ecu

my friend has a b-day coming up an ecu for his auto 95 civic and he likes to make his car sound like a stick but it doesnt sound like it. I was wondering if there is anyway that i could buy him an ecu for an auto civic to where he has to change gears in it and it wont auotmatically change them. i said something to him bout it. He said he would like it. Would that make his car faser ? or not?

The Automatics in 92-95 civics are mostly controlled mechanically inside the tranny, the ECU only has control over torque converter lockup.

Manually shifting an auto tranny could be stressful on it and cause it to fail if it has high mileage, although some will argue that it will be fine.

Doing so will not really improve performance much as the tranny will hold gear to redline if you floor it, just as if you held it in gear by the selector.

I'm afraid if he wants more speed he will have to do a manual tranny swap.

I only drive an auto because my wife cant drive stick yet, once I teach her in my old Toyota Pickup I will probably swap a manual tranny into the Coupe.

K I don't want to be a dick or nothing but doing this is pointless if he wants to shift guears get a stick car if you change guears on auto daily the tranny is going to go bad because is not meant for that and a torque converte is an awesome upgrade for an auto tranny because you won't have the lag that the auto tranny's have when they shift it'll just shift hard like a manual tranny but it will still shift byitself

Well... I think there are a couple of companies that build up civic trannies to take a little more power but I don't know about gear ratios, performance setups with an Auto are not very popular.

Disabling the torque converter lock-up would actually do the opposite of what you want, however you can get an expensive after-market converter that has a higher stall speed and get a very slightly better launch.

A properly working civic auto tranny has very little lag when it shifts, the main problem with them is the long gearing and the low rpm torque at launch..
