Default More Clutch Problems... (Help me!)

Alright, the car is a 1990 Integra with a jdm b20 and b16 cable tranny. Just last week the clutch went out on it, so a friend and I replaced it with an Exedy Stage 2. Initially I was wondering how you can tell when the clutch is fully engaged/disengaged, and what was a good point for the pedal to release (high, low, or middle). Now, things are a little weirder...

Yesterday I was driving home from a friend's house when I passed through a big puddle of water. Clutch in, cruise through, clutch out into first at low rpm's. Then I decide to have a little fun w/ the b20 and floor it, but the clutch is already released, so it's not like I dropped the clutch at high rpm's. After my little "burnout" I press the clutch in to shift, the pedal feels very soft. The clutch seems to still engage just fine, but the pedal doesn't feel right at all. It's way too easy to press to the floor, and if you push it in slow, you can feel a slight "crunch" at the end. I drove it to school today but now it is sitting at home because I don't feel comfortable driving it in its current state.

Anybody have any idea what the problem could be? I already know I don't have the best driving habits... but I don't understand why I'm having so much trouble with my clutch because it's not even that old. I'm a senior in high school and I graduate next Monday, so I really need to get this fixed as it is my only means of transportation. TIA.

Is that what the symptoms point to? As far as I know it was installed right, my friend did the majority of the work as he's been doing a lot of clutches lately, so I just kinda watched to learn. The only problem is he is much more familiar with hydraulic clutches than cable ones, so he has no idea where to start troubleshooting. Do you think that is what the problem is? I will be pulling it again on Friday to take a look.

dont pull it yet, check your clutch cable and get a helms or haynes manual and adjust the pedal height, i just replaced my clutch with a stock one and when i first went to drive it it was touch and soft...unlike my other one, but in about a week or so it evened out and got like my other one was, just with a quicker engagement due to the fact the new disk is alot thicker than my old one....is it making any noises while driveing/ engaging?

No noises when I'm driving, but I do notice a "crunching" feeling when I press the clutch in slow, but it's only at the very end. That's the only way I know how to describe it, but it definitely doesn't feel good. I've adjusted the pedal height since I put it in trying to find the right point, and I'm still unsure about it. What's the best spot? Low, Middle, High? I understand that the lower it is the harder it will be to get into gear (because less engagement) and the higher the more chance of burning the clutch (not enough disengagement), but I still don't understand what it needs to be adjusted to. Also, how can you tell if the cable itself is bad or needs replacing?

frays or kinks...that sort of stuff, but as for the engage ment i always had mine set in the middle but know i have it at stock height more towards the floor, it just depends on your preference, but you cant feel the engagement point, like where it gets stiffer? you can tell were its at by easing the clutch out in gear until it starts to move...then you should be able to go from there

I'll try a couple more adjustments when I have a little time... for now I'm just scheduling rides. There's this hot girl with an 04 Lancer that's gonna take me to work tomorrow.

my 92 gsr had a ys1 cable tranny... mine did the same thing.. the water just got on the cable and on the little arm thingy.. its normal.. im not sure what the little "crunch" is but i know its the cable.. i learned to live with it but if it really bothers you, you can replace the cable.

Thank you, I was wondering if it has something to do with the water. Did it permanently make your clutch feel soft though? That doesn't exactly make sense to me, I would think that in the Vegas heat here (it's getting a little warm) that it would dry up and be okay again. This Friday I have set aside to work on the car, so I will look into getting a new clutch cable.

it would dry up... after awhile.. the "crunch" would happen at different points in the pedal... i wouldnt worry about it dude.. i thought mine was screwed up too but i just kept driving it and realized it was just the cable...

when my clutch was soft i was told itll go away once it breaks in and it was gonna be touchier since the disk was thinker and needed less push to engage

Well I'm still gonna put it in the shop on Friday, and if it continues to act up, I'm gonna pull it and check it out again. I want to make sure it is working correctly because I am looking at selling the car now.

Well, when I first put the clutch on the pedal was very firm, I noticed the difference, so it's not like it just started out soft. I also had some slight issues with the clutch itself though, it felt like it wasn't engaging right. I'm really starting to lean towards replacing the cable... just to see if that could be a cheap fix and better alternative than pulling the tranny off again.
