Default How to get your R back to pristine condition or how I drained my wallet....

Not that any of you guys have known, but I've been without my ITR for almost a year. I put it under the knife because I was fed up with it's oil burning and the tranny had started to grind a little bit. I planned on getting it back together quick, but one thing led to another and my setup decisions changed several times.

I was intially going to do a beastly all motor build (even had the 84.5mm bore 12.2 compression CP pistons ready to go), but then I realized that I didn't buy the thing to be a drag car and that it would never come close to something like my turbo hatch, in a strait line. Shortly after I sold the pistons and put on the thinking cap once again.

I thought about just having a mild OEM rebuild, but living in Alabama my choices were kinda limited and I just couldn't bare the thought of some shop screwing something up, especially after my recent dealings with a "well respected" and often used retailer here on Honda-Tech. The fear of more delays than I was already having (missed Expo which I had paid for because of one) is just something I didn't feel like dealing with stress wise.

In the end I just wanted my R back to perfect running OEM (almost) condition and quality without the fear of any faulty workmanship.

So today I did it. Heading to my house within the next few days is...

1 brand new OEM shortblock and a new OEM tranny. My head is also on it's way back from Alaniz technologies with a normal valve job and Rocket Motorsports valvetrain installed (hey I said ALMOST stock rebuild ) for my very mild Skunk stage one cams. I already had the cams in the car before so I figured I might as well keep them, but decided to beef up the valvetrain just for sake of safety.

My wallet is hating me right now and it's technically not the best "deal" in terms of what I could have done with the money in regards to building the motor, but something about having everything brand new again just puts a smile on my face.

OEM bling =

I think the feeling of lightness in the wallet will go away soon after you turn the key and hear the engine come to life

I get excited just thinking about it.

Oh and to top it ALL off.

I've rented out Talladega Gran Prix Road course for the entire day for me and a few friends on August 8th. I figure I might as well break the new engine in with a bang.

Not meaning to advise you too spend more money, but why not invest in a baffled oil pan, and oil cooler to protect the longevity of your newly rebuilt engine?(Actually I am advising you to spend more money but you see my point)

I've got a set of Defi oil pressure and temp gauges ready to install. Baffled oil pan will be a definite and if I can work in a Mocal oil cooler setup before I install the engine I will. If not I'll keep track of my oil temps and run cool down laps when nessecary until I get a good cooler.

I also want to get a set of Koni SPSS valve shocks with custom rate GC's, an adjustable rear sway, autopower 4 point race roll bar, and a good seat before I hit the track.

I might need to start writing Santa early this year.
