I have a '96 Civic Coupe dx, I'm completely lost, I was thinking about just turboing the d16y7, but now I'm not so sure.. anyone have any suggestions about a good swap, maybe one that will give me better results than what I was planning and still wouldnt completely break me ($)..??

Hey, yeah it would be a great idea to do a swap in your honda IMO, because the stock motor just doesnt make good power and a good swap that fits a budget can usually be found in B-series you can find B16A2(complete swap) for sometimes around 1700 which is a pretty good deal..just look at some of your options and dont rush it

 

Well it all depends on what your goals are. Do you just want to be a little faster, do you want to build a drag car, what's your point in having a civic? If you want quick hp results the cheapest way is to turbo your d. There is no BEST swap. All there really is, is personal choice and preferance. What do you prefer is the question and what do you want is another.
for the record k20a aruguebly (spelled wrong) is the "best" swap choice. But that's a whole other topic.

 

Awesome, at least some people arent d***s, like I said I was just wanting to know some peoples own advise, if all you where gonna do is get on my thread and talk ****.. then do me a favor and go bother someone else.. and yeah turboing my D would be a cheap way. Im really just wanting something thats not slow(of course) but also not a complete drag car, I want it to be pretty decent, but still be able to mess with the big blocks on the street

Yeah but to be honest...thats your job, to look...i mean yeah you're car wont really be "slow" being forced inducted..but it probably wont be anything to special IMO

 

Probably not, but I never said I wanted someone to pick my swap for me, Im just interested in what others think.

 

Man, peeps have issues here hating n stuff. I've used a JRSC (jackson supercharger) on my 95 d16z6 hatch. stock internals, racing fuel pump, 310cc rc injectors, intake, header, exhaust, etc. boosting 10psi. i was a close to 200hp at the crank and pulling on gsrs. But, ultimately, these d series motors n trannies aren't meant for that kinda punishment.
I swapped a b18c1 into mine and love it. It is a great base to start from or leave it alone and make good power n e ways. If money is an issue, turbo your motor you have n get about 40 horses n torque more out of it at 6-8psi. You can do this for under a G easily. Or, get a B20 from a CRV, not the old ones from the old school Prelude. These cost around $600-$800. But you still need to come up on an LS ecu, b series tranny, shift linkage, axles, mounts.
That's my 2 cents. Hope it helped. I gotta agree with the other guy about going with a K swap tho. Those swaps are nice, but definately pricey.
