I'm lucky to belong in a few places in this world.
First is home of course.
And for financial reasons it's a good thing I'm not out of place at work.
I also belong to TCO - the Touring Club of Oregon. It's a small collection of friends - an extended family really. The core associations are Sports Cars and the 1960's. But membership is by solicitation and invitation. The club has to want to own you, and you have to earn ownership over your place in the club. The dynamics are those of a small group of close friends extended to a larger formal association.
The other ownership society I belong to is Honda-Tech. It all started when I bought an ITR and it took ownership of me. And for better and worse I found my way to H-T and my ownership of "Scott, who is RR98ITR".
Ownership? What's in it for us? It's the very ground we stand on. And write from. And it's hand in glove with individuality. It's freedom - expressed. And it's home and belonging.
In such a context then I viewed the Expo as a celebration, and those attending as each in their way the birthday boy or girl. "What'd ya get?"..."A Type-R!!!!!!"
Scott, for whom H-T has provided some very enjoyable friends...Happy R-day Foo's...We've been Owned.

Dammit Scott I was looking forward to meeting you. Somewhere between hanging out with old friends, meeting new ones, defiling Chris F' car, protecting my sack from exploding air bags and fixing busted R's in the paddock I didn't meet your acquaintance.
If I did not hang with you at Expo I would think this little speach was... well Nuts.
Glad I met you and looking foward to another track event together

It was funny watching people figure out who Scott was when he was introduced. "Oh, you're that Scott!
Good times as always.

How true.
Chris - who knows everyone sees their ITR owning experience in their own way... but the best thing that came from mine was friendship and community... funny and interesting how that wasn't limited to ITR owners.

I guess I was the only person that has met him before and knew who he was. It was nice to see you again.
Shame on you for not having a spare Houseman/Mugen equipped ITR box in the back of your towing machine... you do know that the ITR EXPO is more important than the ARRC run-off's... and you must be on track... no matter the expense!
It sucks that the one year that I don't bring my tools with me... I could have use them.

I've got this sliver of my brain that is OWNED by Opie (in the mullet wig) swaggering across the parking lot at the Holiday Inn loudly calling somebody his bitches.
I've got another sliver of my brain OWNED by the Sacred Circle of ITR Philosophy meeting by the Will Harris branch of the River of ****.
And another is completely OWNED by Aquafina's masterful command of the fine art of Jackassery. <Sniff>...His clutch gave it's all for our entertainment. He was completely out of line and beyond the pale...and even driving the wrong car...and yet what can I call him but "Brother"?
Scott, who remembers talking to ChrisN in the Sacred Circle about "getting it"...only two things needed: the ability to "get it" and an "it" worthing of being gotten...We all "got" ITR Expo-5...blissfull ownage.

Putting it that way makes it sound revolting! ha! I guess I was oblivious at the time that rivers were forming around us.

I don't think anyone has hit the nail on the head like this. For aquafina or anyone else without an ITR. It's not just an exclusive ITR gathering.. and even when we had enough ITR students that we had no other cars on track... it wasn't an exclusive ITR gathering then either. Something other than owning an ITR holds us all together.. not sure what 'that' is yet.... obviously its not just a track event... but very very much a social event.

chris - who enjoys trying to understand 'it' ... and that whole 'man vs track/nature' thing.

Yessum.
I like my car alot, but it's friends that matter. If someone would have come up to me and asked wtf # ITR I had, "GTFO!" may have come out of my face.
