You can and it is SUPPOSEDLY gear limited however by how much? VERY little. You're going to need some top end power along with changing the gear set either by tranny or just increasing tire diameter. Why would you want to though?

sounds like he wants to go faster than ~138mph

If you don't track your car, you don't need to go that fast.

i'm sure a higher top end would also come in handy when out-running the police

If that's the case you don't want to be doing it in a Prelude in the first place. Reminds me of an e-mail that was sent to Car and Driver a bit back. They misprinted the top speed of the Chrysler 300 to be around 150 or something and some idiot drove by the police at 100 mph fully intending to outrun them only to find that it's electronicly limited at 105...

very easy and inexpencive,the answer....................................
.................................................. ............................................
.........accord tranny will do the trick i used a 91 dx tranny on my h22a
as i remember at 80mph 2900 rpm i could take 4th to 130 mph+ although
my motor is modded and my car weighted in at a hefty 2650 wet.
on a h22.org there was a turboed h22a accord tranny on the dyno 180mph+ in 5th gear that was on a dyno though so im sure on a track its different
i was always interested in top speed, I wonder what is the highest speed
we can get with a different final drive ,with accord gears, fully turboed ,
aero wind tunnel modded tested kit like mugen, bigger wheel diameter
upgraded suspention, well i guess we will find out when i get rich i guess we will be waiting a while

^^^ Exactly. I'm doing the same thing except using my h22's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and taking 5th from counter and mainshaft from an f22b tranny. I don't want it to "top out" cops, I want it because I'm making a hefty turbo build and I still want gas mileage. The longer 5th gear will give me much better gas mileage and I'll still have a good 1/4 mile time. But nonetheless, it will give you a higher top speed, just dont do anything dumb with it!

Again, why do you want the Prelude to have a higher top speed? If you REALLY want to just extend the gears buy larger tires. No need to swap trannies to go faster. If anythign most people want LOWER geared trannies to accelerate faster.

who knows this guy has weird priorities when it comes to his car.

unless you're involved in LSR what's the ****** point?

you're never going to be able to drive that fast anywhere anyway--the fastest i've gone on track is ~130 at big willow, maybe you'll hit 140 if you're a good driver with ***** of steel, but a prelude can hit that speed already.

it's just for some idiot to say "Y0 mY CaR GoEs 180 MpH Yo!!! LeZ FrEEwAy RaCE cuZ iM ToO DuMb/cHe@p To TakE It To A TRacK!!!"

Putting larger diameter wheels will only slightly change the gearing of your car.

I know most people will are into drag and autoX so this is stupid to them but for some, like me, we are interested in this. I don't plan on going that fast in the streets, maybe when I was stupid and 16 but have you guys ever heard of the "Silver State Classic".

That's a race in Nevada and they have all the top speed car along with some slightly modify cars and they time themselves from point A to point B with the overall highest top speed.

I myself is interested in this but maybe in the future when I have the funds.

How fast are you intending upon going? ~169 mph will be your top speed w/ 225/50/17 tires on the car. You're dreaming if you think you're going to reach that w/o a motor rebuild and quite possibly FI and a HUGE radiator. 5th gear full throttle pull in excess of 10 minutes... well if you think you can accomplish that reliably on the stock motor kudos to you.

has noone though of the aerodynamics of the car? at a higher speed you will need increased downforce to keep your car at least somewhat controlable... otherwise you're gonna die.... in a fiery painful way. why do you think race cars are sooo **** about having the wings set correctly

Fiery...yes. Painful...I doubt it at that speed. At least youll be able to go out in a blaze of glory Dimes.

drive it off the Grand Canyon. The top speed will be the fastest there.

the creator of this thread ask for an tech answers for getting a higher top speed......he did not say he was going to go that fast or do it on the streets.

So why all of yall bustin his a$$, I like bonneville as well as the silver state classic so I'm also interested in some answers.

This is a tech forum and this is some good tech stuff for people to truely understand the power, gearing, aerodynamics, and stability to take a production car to it's limits.

And ***TimeRacer*** "I'm dreaming if I'm gonna reach that speed" ......Man who the hell said I was even thinking of trying such a feat. No **** you gotta build your motor.

I don't everything about top speed cars, but niether does some of the people here either so they post some a$$ remarks like your gonna die.

I gues Moderator can close this issue since nobody here has any input other than Dimes_prelude....your gonna die.

By the way, the progress Civic ran over 200MPH and only had a flat rear wing and an a aluminum front lip, aint like it's gotta a commando kit or gotta go into an aerodynamic chamber where they test the drag on the body.

I never said he shouldn't do it, I said he should thinnk about aerodynamics. I've known many a prelude owner going over 160 saying they barely felt in control...

build your motor, since it's built put a HUGE sequential turbo setup on it... put a plate that runs across the bottom of the car... and take off the rear bumper... bring it to the salt flats... and see what happens?
