Looks to me as if a piston rod had a little fun. Those are some pretty big marks and gashes. You might be able to get away with machining the cylinder walls, but who knows if it is worse then what we can see.
The connecting rod hit the side of the block. Possibly someone didnt check clearences if he put in different rods/crank/pistons and changed the rod/stroke ratio.
Sorry, but heres my opinion. The block IS salvagable. However, it will need to be thorougly cleaned, most likely re-honed, possibly center-bored.
For the cost of making sure it will work like new, it may be cheaper to get another block. the oil jet needs replacement too.

I agrea its salvageable but needs maching work, also a new block may be cheaper.

looked like he sprun the bearing, and like other poster said rod meet the cylinder wall. just look for other block maybe cheaper in the long run, but if you really want to keep it then you have to be prepare to spend some money on it.
man if i was you, i would just get a new one that one look like its been ran hard and put away wet... if you catch my drift... but damn you really think that it would be worth trying to say that one, when you could just get a new one??
ok, im convinced to scrap it. if any1 wants it drop me a pm or email. prefer local pickup only. or ship it at your cost.
as for the solution for replacement, i think im going to go back to my first plan of getting a jdm d15b.
thanks for all the info and opinions.
