ok so i just put a y8 trans on my z6 block... i found out that the transmission it self is over heating....and it locks me out of gear... if the car idles for more then say 5 minutes it locks me out of the gears untill the car cools back down... is there a trans. cooler? and is it possible it is malfunctioning... greatly appreciate the help guys...

 

got enough fluid in it ?

Any way it could be a clutch problem or maybe bad synchros?

 

if you got over 80,000 miles on the clutch. i would say its the clutch .. cust that was my problem..

 

clutch, and flywheel are brand new.... exedy stage 1... transmission came from a buddy of mine that only had about 60k on it... i know its over heating because when i open the hood... sit for a min. and start it back up it all works... but if i say... idle at a stop light for more then 5 mins. i'm fucked... i have to sit and wait for it to cool back down....

 

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but aren't there a few things that can be wrong with a clutch that can cause it to stick when it gets hot?

 

very possibly... so lets find out what it is?!?!

 

It's probably the clutch. Take the trans off and look.

 

i just put the transmission on... its a brand new clutch and flywheel and a y8 transmission that only had 60k on it...
