EXBLO my motor
First- Thanks to all the organziers and attendees that made my 3rd expo the most fun.
As some of you know I barely got my car done in time to make it to expo... I spent all day Friday + Saturday finishing it and resolving other issues. Sunday I finally got to drive the car for the first time since wrecking it last August... and it felt awesome. I was glad to get some dry laps in between all the doriftos sessions, that afternoon session with Instructors/Advanced was a blast!
I decided to go out once more at the end of the day to make up for all my downtime.
The motor shut down at around 8krpm in 3rd gear, plug #2 was smashed. I pulled the head last night, I'll let the pics explain the rest.
Thanks WTDR.

Damnit, this bastard passed me on 3 cylinders.

That SUCKS Ed! Is that head done or is it salvageable? How are the cylinder walls, are they beat too?
Wait, I can't see what's up with #4, is something wrong? Did a timing belt jump teeth or something? (confused) Or was did just the one valve disintegrate?

Looks like a cracked retainer and a valve dropped. Same thing happened to the last motor that blew on me and that was just after installing some cams and valve springs...
head looks salvagable
had the same damage, and the machine shop rewelded it, installed a new seat and pressure tested. everything is all good now for me

olo!
The head can be filled and recut I'm sure, I've seen much worse get fixed. Cylinder walls look like they'll just need a hone
All four cylinders had some sort of debris in them, I'm guess **** that shot back up through the IM. No other damage besides that intake valve on #4 with the chunk in it is prolly bent.
Now I'm just deciding if I should stay H2 or goto H1
Stock retainer breaking =
