I ran out of gas after 180 on a full tank
after 180 on a full tank I found myself sitting on the side of the road helpless just about 30 min ago. can anyone tell me if its normal to get 180 miles per tank. Is it the way I am driving? I also have a CEL and i think its my O2 sensor, can that be a possibility?
be nice if you tell us what car is it
and 180miles is possible on a tank of gas
if you like flooring it left and right sure it can even get lower
if its your o2 sensor it can make you run rich
pull the code out and see what it is

yea if your o2 is bad then that would most defintly cause bad mpg. And you do know that there is a needle on your cluster that tells you how much gas you have.

all true. as well as a dirty air filter
we need more info and you need to get the code read properly by like Autozone because the jumper way is way too vague on the problem. 1 code for 4-5 o2 sensor problems all with different ways to fix it

I have a 95 EX with a d15b7 in it (thats how i bought it) but it has a 92 Si tranny too and no, the fuel needle is missing so idk how much gas i have. But i just bought the car and i hear all this stuff about civics getting superb gas mileage. The air filter is clean cuz i just bought the intake last week (the whole system) Idk about the fuel filter though. Also, autozone told me they dont have the tools for OBD1 scanning, so idk what to do

Ummmm maybe you should get a new gauge cluster.......... how the hell do you know how much gas is in it if you don't even have the gauge working?
Do that first, then come back with problems.

theres a way to check the CEL code w/o the OBD tool, i have an 00Si so its OBD2 idk if it would work for OBD1....pretty much take a paper clip and cut off one end so you still have a U shaped pice...now remove the panel that covers your ECU and there should be a greenish rubber piece with a jumper on it (not connected to anything) take the jumper and plug the paper clip into both ends to make a complete circuit. Now turn the car to the II position and watch the CEL light it should start flashing....i belive that 1 long = tens and 1 short = ones so for me i have LONG LONG LONG LONG SHORT SHORT SHORT SHORTSHORT = code 45 = RUNNING TOO RICH OR TOO LEAN....other ppl here know where theres a list of all the codes....gets the codes and post em up, someone will know what ur talking about....again idk if it will work for OBD1 but it wont hurt to try...oh btw dont turn on the car with the paper clip in it
hope it helps

Did this just start happening?? How many miles did you used to get on a full tank? The car is swapped right? What ecu are you using? There are a bunch of things that could cause bad gas mileage... We need all of the info pertaining to the vehicle and its history...
This might sound weird but if you have ever been to the beach you know what the washed up seaweeds smell like, thats somewhat what my exhaust smells like, so idk. How much are gauge clusters? and what kind of work do i need to do to swap it out?

Its really easy..take part of the dash off..a few screws, unplug, then plug the new one in put the dash peice on and your set.
The smell..is probably a bad cat.

How many gallons did you actually put in?
With light engine mods 180miles should have been about 7 gallons(26mpg), without mods about 6 gallons (36mpg), at current prices that would be between $12 - $18.
In stock form Civics get great mileage, however dont expect this after doing certain mods or driving like you are on a drag strip all day.
My stock D16Z6 gets about 36mpg, with a crappy Automatic no less, I rev it up to 6-7000rpm often too.

A bad o2 sensor will have the car in open loop all the time - which means you get gas mileage as if you have it "floored" all day, all the time
I filled up with 93 octane for $25.75 and got 12.446 gallons at $2.069 per gallon. I usually dont race my motor though. So I am guess to get this: fuel filter, o2 sensor, cat, and a new gauge cluster. sound good? how much money should i be look at for all this? Also, isn't it really bad for your motor for it to be running really rich all the time?
