check the tranny cables and the associated hardware.

Check your shift linkages. If they seem solid, check for play at the shift arm. If excessive play is there, pop the shift tower off and make sure your interlock bolt hasn't broken.

umm maybe this is a noobie quesiton but how do i check the shift linkage? and the shift tower is where the cables are connected to right? i think ive checked that... does this problem occur often because it seems this question is asked a lot but i havnt found an exact answer as to how to fix it...

It's happened to me 3 times in a hybrid car. You have to replace the shift cables, if they have that sloppy feeling, it's only a matter of time until they sieze up. Look on the top of your tranny and locate the 2 cables. One of the cable ends is vertical, and the other is horizontal. Pull the pin out of the vertical one and detach the cable from the lever on the tranny. Now go move your shifter, and see if it is still hard to move, or if it moves freely. If it moves freely, the resistance is in the tranny. If not (which it probably won't), then the resistance is in the cables and they need to be replaced. The best places to get new cables are here on H-T or at a local junkyard. Late model MT accord cables work too. Good luck.

if you dont know what you're looking at, nobody here is going to be able to help you but my advise is to make a few friends nearby that know what they're doing

Yeah, but if your shift cables are fine, the interlock bolt could've broken off. I had that problem, but my shift cables were fine. Put a new bolt in (had to drill the remnants of the old one out) and everything was fine.

ive already tried that thing where you disconnect the pin and move the shifter cables...they move fine... like theres no resistance...so than the problem is in my tranny?...i dont really have resistance problems at all....it's when you put it in gear it feels mushy once it's in meaning i could push it foward till it touches the plastic piece

Remove your shifter cables from the tranny. Manually shift the tranny using the shift arm itself. Once it's in gear, try pushing it more. If it wont move, the problem is your shifter cable. Otherwise, its your tranny.

Its probably just the cable that controls forward/backward movement of the shifter.

^^exactly....i had the mushy problem....

one day i got in and started it up and the clutch felt like ****, but i had to go so i pushed it down and tried to go into first and it felt really weird, i had to push pretty hard.....

after that it felt mushy the whole day....

then later on, i was shifting into third at about 4k-5k rpm and the cable straight up broke and i was stuck in 3rd gear about 20 miles from my house....

it sucked ***, i had to take off in third three times.....

anyways, i got new cables and its fine now....
if you ever saw the page i put up when i got them, the jdm ones are of better manufacture....get a set of jdm ones, and zip tie them together, my shifting feels sooo solid now i love it
