Went to pick up the bike from dealer ... won't start
So I'm all pumped up and stuff, after passing MSF course 2 days ago and ready to pick up the 98 CBR600 F3 I bought from dealer and bring it home with my friend.
The dealer also took the bike for inspection for me, it failed because of worn tire, the dealer replaced a new tire for free
I was all happy and stuff till the bike is out of the door. I first notice the fuel valve doesn't say where is on and off and reserve, the long end is pointing upward and I think that's "On" position. Choke on, cut off switch on, key on, clutch in, and ... click click click click click click, vromm vroom, POW! (2-bro exhaust).
I was like WTF, and try again, and now only the starter is making clicking noise. Check gas tank and there seems to be enough gas in it to start. Seems like the battery is dead. The dealer has to come out and take off the seat and jumpstart it. Didn't work, only a couple loud *** backfires. Dealer went to get some gas and have it half-tank full and still no go.
I question the position of the fuel valve and since there is no owner's manual, we don't know which way is on, off and reserve. We end up trying all 3 positions and still no go. The dealer calls in the mechanic and he said the spark plugs might be flooded and they need to check it out and I have to come back tomorrow.
The bike starts up fine and idel fine when I first look at it. What could be the problem? What is the correct position of the fuel valve? Mang, I hope this is not a lemon bike.

If the plugs are fouled it will run like total a$$, that is even if you can get it to start. More than likely the battery is shot, they may have just pulled it off the charger when you came to look at it/test ride it.
IF the battery is shot, make sure they test the charging system. CBR's are notorious for having the voltage regulator fail on you.
More than likely putting in new plugs will cure the running issue. A battery will cure the starting issue.

usually up is on and down is reserve... not really sure about yoru model bike. if the bike is not turning over then foreget the fuel, you have a bad battery (which you can usually bump start the bike everytime) or bad stater. there maybe also be a relay switch for your model 9not really familiar with the 98 f3... if the bike ran fine before, then do not get to worried about the bike having a bad engine, it is something simple. make sure the tank breather is not clogged also if your getting spurtting under load.

so, can you confirm again if the below is true:
Short end pointing 12 O'clock = Off
Short end pointing 6 O'clock = On
Short end pointing 9 O'clock = Reserve
Correct?
