Expo: glad to be alive!
First, I gota say Expo 5 was super bad ***! So much fun getting to meet new people and seeing friends we don't get to see often
Well, the reason for my subject title is b/c of what happened on our trip home. In Ash Fork, AZ a semi-truck (45,000 lbs) pulled out in front of us. Mike did his best to avoid it, but all he could do was to brake as hard as he could and aim for the center of the semi's bumper so that we don't go underneath. It was a great split second decision b/c had he drove into the center median, we most likely would have rolled and be dead.
There was two impacts:
1st impact, both air bags deployed. Microseconds later, the hold down straps on the ITR broke and launched itself into back of the Tacoma; 2nd impact.
Thankfully mike, semi driver and myself are okay physically for the most part. Usual aches and pains after a collison but nothing major it seems.
After all the statements are taken by AHP and paramedics, the semi drove off on his delivery of stones. As for us, the tacoma and ITR w/ trailer was taken to an impound yard. We called as many people we could think of back home that might be able to help us. Got desparate as almost calling a taxi to take us into town to buy another truck. HUGE, HUGE thank you to the Loose Boys (Loose R & R U Serious). Even though they were over 200miles away, Dan drove out a U-Haul to us and helped load up all the stuff. When we got back to Loose Boy headquarters, jeff, miles, kent and matt gave us a big welcome
(Gen mai cha r0x0rz!)
It's good to be home.
Update 6/3/05:
well, no real update but a few questions keep coming up so wanted to address them here.
- Cops will not say who is at fault. They can only take statements from both sides and report it.
- Insurance company has only started the investigation and police reports won't be ready for several weeks. So it'll be a long time before any outcome is known.
- If you would like photos, please PM me w/ your car color and window # if you haven't already. If it wasn't an R, let me know what you were driving. After I get caught up w/ my regular work, I'll organize my pix from Expo.
- A few PM'd me about donations. They can be paypal'd to my account at mindhead@yahoo.com I don't like to receive anything w/o something in return so please leave your mailing address in the notes.

holy **** yoshi and mike!!
it was great to see you guys at expo fo sho.
Glad you guys are ok. Really glad. That looks like it was a pretty serious impact.
Such a sad site (the pics) but you guys are ok... that's what really matters.
Too many incidents on the highways to/from expo this year
Chris - who will do what he can to help with the rebuilding process, and hopes everyone else will.

yeah, it could have been a lot worse than just hitting the truck. Good outcome, considering the circumstances.

So sad to see!!!!!!!!!!

that really sucks, I hate everytime I drive on I-40 I always see something happening, whether its tons of cops or an accident involving a big truck. Sucks to see you were involved in one, but at least you guys were ok. Hopefully the R an be restored to its former glory soon.
Thanks for your support everyone.
Two years of work into the ITR and lots of prep/ $$$ went into the Tacoma just for the Expo. Still doesn't dampen the fun we had at Expo5

Sorry for your misfortune but very glad that you guys are alive and in one piece.
NewR - who wonders how many pics yoshi would have to sell to bring the R back to life.

OMG!!! Terribly sorry to hear about this Yoshi and Mike.
Let me know if there's anything I can do. Maybe auction off a Team lazy koozie to benefit the rebuild?
