Getting ready for first autocross
I'm getting ready for my first autocross on the 12th. I have a few questions. Can I use any DOT (don't remember off the top of my head 3 or 4) fluid or do I have to stay with a specific one. The reason I ask is my father has racing brake fluid for our 66 stang and I'm going to be changing brake fluid anyway so I was wondering if I can use it. Also I'm going to be changing my pads to the "green stuff" and yes I know there not great but they came with the car when I bought it so might as well use them. I'm also changing rotors, tranny fluid and doing an inspection on the whole vehicle. Is there anything else I'm forgetting? I'll find out exactly what kind of "racing brake fluid" tonight and I'll let you guys know. TIA

No, Autocross is not hard on brakes and will not boil brake fluid.
Tracking is another story.

Just bleed and replace with whatever fluid you have. Some full race fluids are not compatible with our braking system, so I say just use whatever. You will not boil your fluid at autox (and if you do you are doing something very wrong LOL).
Ride with as many poeple as you can, and see if you can get an experienced driver to ride with you on your runs.

Main thing is to have fun guys but I need to do my brakes anyway that's why I'm going with the "racing fluid" it's free and it needs to be changed. I'll try to see if I can ride with others. I know john (grnlion) is going to be there as well so who knows. I'm trying to get my dad to bring his lightning and a family friend to bring his viper truck. That should be a good showdown.
how many miles do you have on your car?
unless you've got 50k miles & never had your brake fluid changed, just go out & autoX this weekend. The last thing you want is to have something go wrong while changing your brake fluid and not be able to run the event.
& stock brake fluid is more than enough for autoX. no point in using something that is higher grade, just for the sake of it.

50K + not to mention I'm not the original owner, so I have no idea when it was changed last but it's looking a little brown. Also I need to replace the pins in the calipers. They were sticking the last time I had my rotors turned. I'm looking at it this way. Not only am I changing this stuff for the autoX but for future events. I want to run Homestead or Sebring by the end of the year.
cool, im trying to save money for sebring at the end of this year too. chin is having one sometime in the fall. I say go with the DOT 4 so you don't have to change it later, and since you're doing it already. BTW if you want you can ride with me.
