Default OT: What did you guys think of that "SCC UCC" finalist - Hyundai Tiburon?

I enjoyed reading about that particular car at the grocery store the other night.

Why?

Well, that guy took the ugliest car ever and had one engine in the front and one in the rear - each making over 300whp and internally stock! And they had separate tranny's so he could do a burnout in fwd on one engine and in reverse on another engine... He beat every car there in the acceleration and burnout tests. lol

And didn't I read somewhere that thing was winning thousands a night street-racing? What a sleeper! Imagine you have a supra, dsm, rx7, mustang cobra, camaro ss, and this guy says he'll race you for $1k. You'd laugh and say sure! You look under his hood and see a little 4cyl and laugh some more... Then he KILLS you in that little thing!

I'd love to see this thing in action.

I like the fact that our R got these comments:

"Smoke the CLUTCH instead of Tires"....
"Who needs HP when YOU can drive.." HeHe

Who would have thought a Ferrari would have won????
Who would have thought they would let a rustang enter the competition???
14.75 1/4 mile Type R with a JRSC, thats got to hurt JR's sales...
What a stupid test

I didn't read the article, but a 14.75 for the jrsc'd R??? He's pushing 9-10psi on a boost upgrade if I remember correctly. There's absolutely no reason that R should run anything worse than mid 13's.

How is it that the Datsun 310 won the looks competition, and not the ferrari? Did they even need to do the test?

How stoopid .. oh, and while we're on the subject of stupidity, is every car on the highway now going to have a six speed, no matter the power or top speed? ha ha

Ross, I'll have to go against this one... 510's are awesome! And, Taneko's (sp?) nickel-dime is very meticulously fabricated.

To think all these years I've been pining for a Ferrari, and I could just get a Datsun instead!

Mad props on the Datsun setup though .. lot's o' work

Just goes to show, without tuning and preparations cars go to . The Skyline/Integra/Datsun/300ZX all had last minute problems. Some of those cars should have waxed the Ferrari, but it didnt happen. Even the MR2 had major tuning issues. I like many other Honda fans was dissapointed with the R. There are hybrid Civics running 12's.

My recollection from the article on the R:
It would be very possible for a road/auto-x prepped R to get those drag results. Plus, the purpose of the car was not for drag racing. The owner/driver, build it for auto-x and/or road racing and/or street use. He kicked *** where it counted, IMO, on the road course.

Bad thing is that with performances like that one fewer mags are going to test the R cause it really doesn't seem to he in the running..

Read it in one of the earlier SCC issues when they listed all the cars and you were supposed to fill out a card to vote for the finalists... I'd like more info on this car too...
