Default After swap: NO VTEC... And no CEL... WTF?

I just swapped a D15B VTEC into my car... Everything runs great... At first I was just glad I got it in and running... Well now I realize that I dont hear, or feel VTEC... Yea yea, its a single cam I woulnt feel it anyways, well I should atleast hear it... And I dont... So I hooked an LED up to the VTEC wire from my OBD1 conversion harness (got it from rywire.com), grounded it out somewhere, and gave it a run... Notta... So I dont think VTEC is working at all (and yes the LED works, I plugged it to the battery and it lit up, and yes it has a resistor on it)... And there is no CEL... I did jump the CEL pins to see if it was wired correctly, and the CEL stays on all the time when the switch is on... So my CEL is wired up... What could the problem be? I did beat the **** out of the oil pan while working on the engine... I think I read somewhere that a dent in the pan can cause oil pressure problems... But wouldnt that throw a code? Plus its not beat up that bad I dont think...

you need to put the LED on the pin of the ECU plug and see if it lights up, in fact if you could slide the terminal of the LED thru the harness s0 it touches the pin of the ECU it might be even better to see if the ecu is even issuing a vtec signal..does the d15b have a vtec pressure sensor? The reason i ask is maybe you could hook up another vtec ecu like a p28 if it DOES have a VPS and see what happens....

The LED is hooked up pretty close to the ECU... But I may try tomm to rewire it as close as possible... And recheck that I even spliced the right wire... I have a rywire preOBD to OBD1 conversion harness which says black is to the VTEC solenoid, and I spliced into the black wire... But I suppose it could be off... And yes, the engine does have a VPS, I had to buy another VTEC solenoid with one because I used the P28 which would throw a code without it... But I would think the ECU would throw a code if there were any problems... Like u said, it coulds like the ECU isnt even sending the signal to the VTEC solenoid...

props for going D-series

Well... I rechecked the wiring... Its definately coming from A4 (VTEC solenoid wire)... Its just not sending the signal... What are the chances the guy who sold me the ECU put in a P06 (or another OBD1 nonVTEC ECU) board into a P28 case and sold it as a P28? Cuz im starting to wonder... And if this is the case, how can I find out if it is a VTEC capable ECU?

I think I just found my problem after some digging:

I took out the ECU and on the board there is another sticker by where the plugs go which also says its a P28... So I was looking around and found out the board itself has printed on it a model number: "02D01720-1500 A8Y-D"...
Well I then search google for that, and found this site:
http://www.pgmfi.org/twiki/bin...-1500

"To convert a "1720" board from non-vtec to vtec add the following parts:"

SO.... Ive been screwed royally havnt I??

Can anybody confirm if this board ("02D01720-1500 A8Y-D") is VTEC or not?

Apparently, the older P28 boards share the same number with the rare 'chipable' P07... So this is infact a P28 ECU... But I still have no VTEC...

With the harness I used (rywire preOBD to OBD1) do I have to wire up the speed sensor from the cluster to the ECU? Or is that already done?

that is a good question- i can't remember if there is a VSS signal 'in' (to the ecu) somehow from the mechanical speed sensor on obd0...

i'd call the manufacturer of the harness about this before you research it on the net...it's easier lol

i am pretty sure, however, that the p28 needs a VSS signal but again- i think you would get a MIL if there was not one present.

I really would suggest trying another ecu; isn't there a local shop or friend around that could lend you one for a second?

K, ill try and contact rywire about that...

But no, I wish I had someone who would have a P28, or equivelent... But my g/fs Civic is an LX, and everyone else I know has Accords (mainly my brother who has 3 of them) and other non Honda cars...
