My stoRy: Bye 99' ITR -> Hello 98' ITR racing/rally spec. (pic intensive)
Hi guys,
Some of you might remember my last ITR, it was a black 1999 Euro spec R. I had also fitted complete exhaust system, lowering springs, NSX-brakes, flat black ENKEI rims etc. Here is a couple of pictures:

My old R and my big brothers old STi:

.....
But I sold that one, and now I got this:

The story is as follows:
I really enjoyed tracking my old R, but felt like I was facing a crossroad since the caR was in almost stock condition and I really wanted to upgrade the suspension (coilovers) and saftey-items (roll cage, bucket seats, harness etc.) among other things...
I was VERY happy with the car, but loved her too much to start ripping it apart for cage install etc. I think the car was too clean for such treatment. And generally, and especially her in Norway, a customized car, even with state-of-the-art modifications, are not easy to sell, and often have less value than a OEM car. So with that in mind, I started to look out for a "racing" ITR, and after some time I saw a perfect car for me available... so I put my own car up for sale. That way I could get a car I wanted and save lots of $$.
Sold my old R in december 2004, and got this 1998 CW ITR in start of January 2005
This is the first ever registrated ITR in Norway. This is the same exact car that I read about in the Norwegian car magazines back in 1998. The exact same car I drooled over when I decided: "This is the kind of car I want to buy someday - This is the (realistic) car of my dreams... One day I will own a ITR." And now I got it, excactly that car

The car was first used as a Press/PR-car for Honda Norway, then it was later on converted into a full-spec. rallycar for use in group N. It is still street legal, and that is very rare here in Norway
Here is som pictures from the car in action:

Now for some specs....
I do not know all modifications yet,
on me - but this is some of the specs the old rally-mechanic told me had been done:
1998 CW Honda ITR#03740
- Spoon Sports gear set (original 1. and 2. gear, but 3,4,5 is shorter)
- straight cut gears (does that make sence?) - real noisy anyways
- new final drive (I think Spoon) (top speed about 185 kph / 114mph )
- Spoon Sports ECU
- Spoon Sports LSD
- Helix clutch
- MUGEN engine mounts
- Stainless steel brake lines
- MUGEN bushings
- Pro-trac WRC Aluminium dampers, 3-way adjustable, with seperate tank.
- H&R springs from tarmac coil-over kit.
- JDM 4-1 header
- no cat
- custom cat-back exhaust
- ABS removed
- Castrol SRF brake fluid
- Ferrodo DS3000 pads
Interior:
- almost no interior - just some door panels /plastic etc.
- full welded professional cage, rally spec - FIA approved.
- Sparco Evo bucket seat (for driver)
- Sparco prodrive WRC (for co-pilot)
- Momo 6 point harness
- Momo steering wheel
Some of the shoes:
- 16" JDM rims with Dunlop R-compounds
- 15" OEM ENKEI rims with winter tires
- 15" OEM ENKEI rims with rally-ice-tires (not street legal)
- 15" wheels with Bridgestone RE-540S R-compounds
- 15" slicks (not street legal)
I will know more about the parts when they need replacement
My plans are first and foremost to learn how to drive and take advantage of this cars potential... VERY different to drive than a stock ITR. ...but I also want to get the car into a more "mint" shape, Spoon CF mirrors on its way, maybe a paint job later on... CF-hood, dunno... and some engine-upgrades (!?) since it is practically stock... just ECU and exhaust (group N rules). New pads/rotors from Carbotech are also waiting to be installed...
Some of my pictures:

.... Ok... this is probably my longest post evar... but hope I didn't bore you guys all that much

crazy stuff and that final drive must be really high..a topspeed of 114. it is useful for rally racing, but if you go on a track with straightaways, you are going to get stomped on
but its pointless to drive a rally car on pavement
nice car btw

Actually, I will use the car for circuit-racing/trackdays on pavement for now.... I am not attending any racing-series yet... But I hope someday I can afford to race for real, not only attend at trackdays.
Yes, pretty crazy finaldrive compared too stock yes
But actually it works well at the small tracks we got in Norway... I dont have time to redline in 5. on the small straightaways we have here in our little country... to bad for some people, but it works for me

Yes, its to avoid the hood-pins to attach to any kind of Trees, bushes, spectators etc. when going flat-out in the forest. It is specified in the saftey-rules.

Yes, the engine has been rebuildt/overhauled at least once... but I don't know why or how "serious" the damage was... All I know is that it works like a charm now

How does she drive and feel compared to your old R?
Take her to the track and have a blast

Allready been to the tracks 3 times this season
Picture from yesterday:

But to compare... hmmm...
Hard to say in a short way... but She feels more direct, more tailhappy, stiffer... She doesn't seem much faster than my old R in a straight line, maybe not at all, but it is also easy to be a little fooled by the super-close gearing... The accelleration is more flat and even. Not the big VTEC-kick@5800 like my old lady R... The biggest challenge is to learn to drive smoothly... Car is much more sensitive on my pedalwork due to the stiff clutch, the Spoon diff and the gear-ratios. It needs more attack, but at the same time more smoothness. I have to rev-match perfect to drive smooth.
And lets not forget; no ABS is not that easy when coming from, IMO, a almost perfect ABS-system as the ITR has OEM... So I am not pushing as hard as with my old ITR yet, but still I have improved about 1sec. under my old "personal best" at the same track. (1min. 10s.) Looking forward to next track-event with new rotors/pads/fluid and a little more experience...
Everything takes time to get used to... But I feel very relaxed when I buckle up in the seats with the harness and all compared to my old "JDM-seats" with regular belts. I feel more focused and got more control/feel for what the car is doing...
It is a blast - much fun

That is ******* sweet. And very cool to see you sell your unmolested R for a track bitch instead of cannibalizing the black car.
Those pics with the pizza cutters on (snow tires) look so cool

I would imagine it's because the Spoon 3-4-5 gears are shorter than the OEM 3-4-5 gears and they kept the short OEM 1-2 gears. I wonder if this ITR uses the Spoon 4.857 or the 4.643? Seems the rally team who built the car knew what they were doing.
Indeed a beautiful ITR.
