I assume you mean blocks

Long block- Bottom end plus head

Short block- just the bottom end, no head

Same motor

longblock = bottomend (block) and head.
shortblock = bottomend (block), and no head.

 

Bottom end houses the crank rods and pistons

Head contains the valvetrain

The 2 together make a complete engine(Long block)

Without the head you have a shortblock.

 

i no what internals are in a block, just wondered what was the diff.

 

diff is long block means complete motor short block means your missing the head ! thats the only diff
