Gunmetal ITR Rims: Repair scratch?
i just picked up some ITR Gunmetal rims. theres a scratch on one of the rims, the gunmetal paint is chipping off. What are you other ITR owners using to touchup that gunmetal?

I use Solaris Silver, paint code NH-536M. The color is an exact match.
Solaris Silver is also the paint code for the '94-96 NSX wheels; Kaiser Silver is very similar, and is a paint code used for the '97-99 NSX body. Either one will be a close enough match. Touch-up paint is available for both colors at your local Acura dealer (although they may have to order it to get it for you).

if you look at the gunmetal rims in bright sunlight they seem more silver.

Well, Kaiser Silver is the actual factory color for the ITR wheels. Some members (such as nsxtasy above) have stated that they've used Solaris with good results, and the colors are supposedly quite similar. Nevertheless. I would personally use Kaiser if they were my wheels, just to assure a perfect match.

kaiser silver is the exact OEM color, FOR SURE? I asked Acura dealership, and they told me there is no exact OEM touchup paint color for the ITR Gunmetal rims.
I want to make my touchup as OEM looking as possible.
so, should i run with the Kaiser silver? Or the Solaris silver?
well..i just had someone stop by the dealership and pickup some Solaris silver for me, I'll compare the touchup paint to the rims when I get home and post some thoughts....

Here's what I know.
I have a set of Solaris Silver wheels from a '95 NSX. I put them side by side with a set of ITR GM wheels, and you cannot tell the difference between the two. They look absolutely identical in color. Which is why I decided to get the Solaris Silver touch-up paint for use on ITR wheels.
I've used the Solaris Silver touch-up paint on ITR wheels and it's a match. No, it doesn't blend precisely - not because the color is different, but just because metallic touch up paint never looks exactly like the surrounding painted area, even when it's supposed to be an exact match. It has more to do with the "flake particles" in the paint than anything else. I think this is also why the touch up paint looks brighter in the bottle than it does once it's applied.
I've heard some people claim that the Kaiser Silver color is the match, and others claim that there is no color code specified for the ITR wheels.
I think what it all proves is that Solaris Silver and Kaiser Silver are so close to each other in color that you can use either one and it's not going to make a whole lot of difference; either one will work just fine.

Depending on the size of the area to be touched up (my rims have about 1/4" chips on the edge from the counterweight being moved) you should:
1. Clean the area to be touched up
2. If it is a large area scuff the exposed part with a scuff pad or very fine sand paper
3. Clean the dust from the area...wipe it down with rubbing alcohol
4. Be sure to mix the paint up very well
5. Use a tiny brush(the ones they give you are generally low quality) and build up the area with a few layers of paint. Allow them to dry 5-10 minutes maybe between them. Don't just put one big blob on it won't look right.
Did I miss anything?

Yes, Kaiser Silver is the <u>exact</u> OEM color. I have checked with two separate dealerships on 3 different occasions, and the color listed in the parts computer for both the wheels themselves as well as the center caps is Kaiser Silver (NH-546M).

Kaiser or Solaris silver...
solaris is a good match, i'm sure for touchups it doesnt matter THAT much, since the touchup area will never blend in completely.
But Solaris Silver is good, the color blends in real good.
