Okay, as of right now, I have two options right in front of me. My buddy dropped in a b16 into his civic so he left me his d16z6 to play with. I also have a jdm d15b vtec sitting here at the same time. Which one would you swap in a VX? I'm planning on doing a simple turbo setup for a little go in my all show car.

Go with the D16z6 as you can use Suzuki Vitara pistons and they are very good to use on a turbo setup.

Don't the Vitara pistons fit in a d15b also? Same bore, different stroke?

 

Both are good motors. I'd go with D16z6 since I used to have one. Although, I've heard the D15B has more aggressive cams.

 

go with the z6 because of the aftermarket internals support, the d15b has pretty much nada, besides 700 custom crower rods lol

IMO i would go z6 and used that d15b vtec cam. I hear that the heads are the same, so just used the z6 bottom and what ever head is better.

 

Run teh D15b while you rebuild teh Z6 w/ nicer parts & then swap them......

The d15b has thinner rods. Not recommended.

D15 i have it and love it

 

I turbo'd my girlfriends d16Z6 with a homemade turbo kit and it moved pretty good, I never been in a c ar with a D15B though, but I'm sticking with the D16

 

The D15B has the same rods as the D16Z6. They also have the exact same cam - seen several examples acutally spec'd out and, while some have different lobe widths (both on Z6 and D15B), the duration/lift is the same.

The D15B does have a better r/s ratio though, and would buy you some rev-ability and possibly longevity. But, it loose torque compared to the Z6.

If you are just going for show, who really cares? Maybe the D15B would buy you some "JDM" points, but as far as everything but displacement goes they are really very similar engines.
