Suggestion for tight timing belt issue on the h22 manual tensioner mod
I had a pretty hard time getting my timing belt on during my manual tensioner mod. I found a pretty easy way to get it on for those of you having difficulty or are planning to do this your first time. This may seem obvious for you experts, but I am hoping this will help someone else out there like me
Before you put the balancer belt tensioner pulley on or the tb tensioner spring, lock the teeth of your timing belt on your cams, crank, and coolant gears. Now with the tb tensionor pulley loose you can pull out that pulley while sliding the TB off the water pump and crank gears no more than half way off the gear. You should be able to get the TB just over the TB tensionor pulley. Once in you can slide the TB tensionor pulley back into place locking it over the bolt on the top right and aligning it with the tensionor adjustment lock on the left. Reattach the spring to the tensioner and use a pair of needle nose vice grips to attach it to the block.
It also helps if you lock your cam gears in place as I was constantly losing alignment. I imagen screw drivers would work, I had two friends over and they happened to grab 3/8 socket extensions that were laying around.
----
On a side note, my spring was pretty tight for the TB tensioner (i know some ppl have worried about having a loose spring). In fact, my TB was so tight I could barely add much more tension on the TB with the adjustment bolt. Same goes for my balancer belt tensioner spring.
(any references to TB would be regarding timing belt as the scope of this post would suggestion, and not Thottle Body or something else)
Hope this helps someone!!
