Default Would you get........

i'm saving for a dc jdm w/ test pipe and a vafc, should i come along some extra mid-summer cash should i get:

a 5zigen fireball exhauset with a fpr, or a jdm fd with toda flywheel?

and, does anyone know if the jdm fd's are still on major backorder?

I hate to start a forest fire but,

if you're gonna do the header and test pipe first, I'd save the money on the VAFC and get camgears and do some dyno tuning instead. Then,

get the ATS FD, it's worth it!

Good luck,

A.

First think about what kind of setup you plan on going with in the future, some setups will benefit more from the JDM final drive rather than the ATS...

Why get anything at all.. why not spend the money on driving....lapping days or Autocross.

i agree with Chris. Spend it on a driving school with Skip Barber or any of those schools. You won't regret it. Not that i've done their schools but....yeah

I agree but, I don't see these guys interested in that so much as what to buy and bolt on. He asked about mods so I'll try to suggest stuff that works and that I either have or have driven with.

We may be enthusiests but not everyone cares to take the time to drive at events like some of us. Heck, sometimes they don't have the time and just want to be a part of this hobby.

Just so I don't look like I'm totally full of Shl tt.

heres something from a few other postings I've pasted it to this week:

In order of importance:

1. A good performance driving school, $2300. would be a nice week, and as the commercial says it will eventually be: "Priceless!"

2. A set of light weight rims and track tires and a weekend at a PDA event like VIR or another course equivelent.

3. A set of "LW" rims and track tires and as many Auto-X's as possible in the shortest period of time, "hopefully with an instructor."

* Optional race pads and or SS lines to stop-stop when you're done go-goin...

These top 3 will teach you how to really drive correctly and or Be the fastest R out there. You can add as many mods as you like but, a better driver him/ herself will
always outperform a lesser driver on a course and day to day in a car like the Integra Type-R!

Other stuff:

4. A high flow filter in the stock airbox

5. A good quality header with at least a 60mm or 2.5" collector mated to a High Flow cat, IE: SMSP, JDM/OEM/ITR, Hytech, Toda, Spoon,

6. A good set of camgears and a day at the dyno to tune the car, "often overlooked."

7. A higher Final Drive JDM/ITR or ATS.

8. A lightweight Flywheel.

9. A set of brake pads and SS braided lines.

10. by now or earlier you've used up your stock street rubber, "that is if we started from a new R" and it's time to get another set of good street tires.

Good luck, the lists can get huge to include internals and VAFC's and lots of other major or minute stuff but, remember that really learning how to drive usually
makes the most difference. I love just learning what My car and I are capable of. I find out more and more every time I hit an event. Do you?

A.

PS if you start out with a yellow R, you will already have a 30 HP gain over the others anyway, and if you slap on a BIG Toda power sticker then you'll beat C5's all
day...

but would you be able to extract more hp with a vafc then with just cam gears (on stock cams of course)?

also, the ATS is too expensive, and since my car is daily driven, it's drivability will decrease

jason

p.s. i'd love to spend some cash on driving schools......but i'm on a mission.......my R vs. every frigg'n bmw in woodbridge (except the new M's)

Personally, I'd put money on the fact that you would. Not just peak, but across the board...

you'll gain big midrange with properly tuned cam gears. VAFC is nice for fuel tuning, but a FPR is just as needed since I can't get my car rich enough with just the VAFC..

But, the ATS FD is the best piece of all that you listed IMO.

Get the ATS if possible.. but if the price range is out of your ballpark, get a 4.78 and some 195/50/15 tires.

I disagree with the above statement about not getting a AFC in favor of cam gears.

Once the header is installed, VTEC can be dropped to the 4800-5100 area for some fatty midrange.

Perhaps.. but members of this board (typer98) gained 15whp in the midrange, mostly from the cam gears. VAFC tuning didn't gain much at all on a friends R, less than 6whp. Both are worthwhile, but I'd spend the $$ on the gears first. Just my opinion.
