I have a 96 civic ex. The primary O2 and the secondary look different on the outside, but it appears to be the same component. The secondary has a jacket and a rubber plug to protect it from the cat heat. It has a four wire connector similar to the primary O2. The connectors are the same as well.

I spent the weekend testing my primary O2, which it was good. I could not remove the O2 sensor from the Cat Converter. It was too tight a fit to remove it. To test the secondary O2, I guess I will have to use a backprobe to the ECM since I dont want to remove or mess with the cat converter.

Why are you swapping the O2 sensors?

well i got some **** gas, and it fried my plugs they were a red color about a month ago, and about a month ago i gutted my cat and got an O2 sim. and and i keep throwing the CEL, and i put on a header about a week ago and the guy i bought the header from gave my his primary O2 sensor witht he header and when i pulled my O2 sensor out of my exhaust manifold i noticed my O2 senor was like red liek the plugs so im wonderiong if the code im thorwing is for the primary, i suppose ill go to autozone one of these days and have them read the codes, but i work 60 hours a week, makes it tuff. not that has anyhting to do with primary and secondary, but for for probs maybe ill try cleaning the primary o2 sensor?

Dont attempt to clean the sensor.
Check the code yourself...

I agree, dont clean it. If the prob is not your sensor, then you will be buying one.

I got a Actron tool to test lots of sensors, great tool to have.

See what your CEL is reading before u mess with sensors.
