5w30 oil and cold engine noises
ok ever since i can remember, i have to tap the gas just slightly when i start my car after it has been sitting overnight. this is due to my IAC being buggy and have not bothered to fix it. i just have to hit it enough to bump it back up to 1500rpm's, nothing more.
recently, i switched to 5w30 oil. was using 10w30 but i figured i'd get better gas mileage with 5w30. definitely true, BUT now when it's cold it knocks a little if i rev it a tiny bit. does not do this when idling or under a load AT ALL, just if i blip the throttle a tiny bit i hear it. once it warms up for a minute or so, it goes away completely. my question is, is this normal? or should i switch back to 10w30? the engine has probably 120k miles on it. runs perfectly otherwise and has no odd sounds at any other time.
please advise, thanks...

also it's a d16y7. could it be piston slap? it's not a *deep* knock, more like a clacking sound. valves perhaps? i'm not really sure. also when i drained the oil it was cleeeaaaann.

Im not entirley sure what the sound is.. But both my cars, my d16z6, and my new one Si b16a2, both make a little clicking sound till they warm up.. I just assumed it was normal seems how it went away after a few minutes.. But if not I would like to know as well

Most likely. Either that or the valves. Mine's done it since I've owned it, and it's pretty common for hondas to do it.

ok well this is reassuring. it does need a valve adjustment so i will have to do that. i've religiously changed my oil so it was just so hard to believe i could already have bearing issues. thanks for the input
