knocking sound from passenger rear strut????
ive had this problem for like 2 years.
when i hit bumps, the rear passenger side sounds like its knocking on wood. like a "thump thump" noise.
its coming from the passenger rear suspension. i took a look at it, tore it apart...can't notice anything wrong? any ideas?

The 3 most common are;
1) shock to control arm, bushings.
2) Upper mounts.
3) main control arm bushing(the large bushing sightly in front of the rear hub area).

There is a TSB from Honda describing a clunk or squeak noise to the rear suspension. The fix was to replace the trailing arm bushing with a new one; as they have been redesigned since they were prone to failure. Of course, there could be other reasons, but I'd check the bushing.

I have the same issue, actually considering going to tear into it tonight to check it out. Shocks are new for me, so I know it's not that.

Unfortunately a TSB doesn't mean free replacement as a recall does correct? I suppose it just means that they have acknowledged it and know it's a problem?

It depends on the dealer (some will do it for free if under warantee, others will fight, like they always do). At the bottom, it stated normal warantee applies. If outstide of the warantee period, it is not covered.
My car was within the warantee period, and I was getting squeaking. The dealer swore up and down they couldn't replicate the problem. I replaced everything in the rear, with the exception of the bushings, and it still did it. Since I replaced everything with aftermarket, they put up a big stink. I had been trying to get it fixed for 2 years, so I just gave up at that point.

Well I'm certainly out of the warranty period, and from what I hear and read it's not an easy job to do by yourself as it requires a hydraulic press. I guess it's just something to live with.

Same here, it hasn't dented the piping, but there's a noticable mark.
