Default intake?

hey whats up everyone...im new to owning n s2k just got it last tuseday...17k bought it for 18500...black 2000 flawless...now im looking to do intake on it soon but i really only have 2 choices becuase im not willing to drop a grand on intake...i like the aem v2 and the comptech intake box...now i know the v2 will make more power n sound better but the comptech looks better n the chance of hydro lock is less with the comptech what does everyone one think?

From all Ive seen, the V2 does dyno higher than the comptech. Yet the comptech saves you the paranoia of hydrolock obviously.

get comptech ... 1 or 2 horsepower isnt worth the chance of hyrdolock, i dont think they have bypass valves for the V2

Its just an intake, your not gaining much at all in this car. Go for the better looking and safe one.

hydrolock is so over rated...its very hard to hydrolock a motor...you pretty much have to submerge the car and filter...

i had an AEM CAI on my eclipse, and i drove through ever puddle imaginable. Just keep it in neutral over water and take your time...You will be fine around here...

Comptech > AEM

Why don't you look into a spoon snorkel? That can't be hydrolocked, its uses the stock air box and their is a second chamber in it for water consumption...Snorkel might be for you...

Speaks from experience. Tweet tweet little birdy.

I some how doubt you're going to hydro lock your engine. But if you drive like a maniac through puddles then you might want to be safe and get the Comptech. Personally I would get the aem or spoon or J's. Then again I'm just saving up for my Supercharger.

the bypass valve will make you lose power....

I have the comptech and I like it but its not worth anywhere near its retail price. The figament is poor at best. You'll having a hard time getting the airbox in then aligning it properly so the hood prop fits in the box.

What I like about it though is it doesn't have that much humming/resonance like when your remove the stock air box lid. It has some but not as much as stock airbox w/o lid. Performance wise I can't feel the difference, but it does make a nice sound that is just loud enough to be nice without getting old and annoying.

I don't think it adds any sound, but you can get a new filter and modify the stock airbox to get more sound.

Its kinda like a passage from the front bumper into the airbox.

Its a "cowl" of sorts that directs cold air from outside of the car directly into the air box (and thus, the filter).

you only have a chance of hydrolock if you like to drive ur car into rivers or you think your car is a boat.

dont drive in deep *** water and u wont have a problem. oem box in the winter and the aem cai for every other season.

spoon snorkel helps at higher speeds (ie when car is moving). the dyno has not shown gains, but we know it does make a difference when actually moving

the V2 reaches gains for 10.5 hp at one point....

Says the comptech is a little bit louder then the stock intake.... but the filter surpresses the sound.. you can put a blowout valve on the comptech? (remember i dont know much about this stuff ) and if you can, it will make that pshhhhhh sound like the turbos?
