Default Ignition timing, have a few questions...

Tried search, but no help.
I performed an ignition timing check and idle speed adjustment by the book this evening, and it would appear that I have wasted my time.

My timing mark (when looking at the pulley) was just to the left at idle- this means that the timing was too retarded, correct?

I changed it to just a hair to the right, but pretty much dead on. tighten everything and now its a bit to the left again (I think from the idle speed slowing a bit because if I gave it an ouce of throttle it would be correct)

also, correct me if I am wrong, but as the timing mark moves to the right the timing is advancing, such as when the engine is reved, the higher the revs, the larger the advance? or does it retard? because the mark moves toward the tight when reved.

so anyway, I try and raise the idle a bit and it just wont? I had done it before and screwing the adjuster OUT produced a higher idle (Is this correct?) or is it in?

so, I am thinking that either my IAC is on the fritz or Im just doing something wrong...

please help, thanks.

assuming you got a 94 accord..right???......
the timing mark on crank pulley you should have a white mark which is top dead center on the left of that there should be 3 marks the center usually red is where you time the car at idle normal oparation meaning warmed up the 1 to the left of that is 2 degree advanced to the right is 2 degres retarded,,, you want to time car at the center of the marks

Yes, this is where I timed it to, it is within limits (the 2 degree area)
I think it is still running odd because of my idle speed? and it wont go higher... is left (out) the correct direction to increase idle speed??

and yes, 94 accord, its in my sig.

Usually when RPMs go up the timing retards itself.
