well, i just got done replacing the rear rotors and brake pads on my del sol vtec and now the car wont budge. for example, if you have it in nuetral and the ebrake down, you cant push the car back or forward. if you drive it, it smokes. its like the ebrake is on but its not. i pushed the ebrake cable in the rear and there is slack there. any help would be great.

 

help, my rear brakes are locked

 

If there rear disk you have to turn the puck down clockwise not compress it like you would on the front set.

im not understanding. this is what i did...

1. take off rims
2. take off old rotors
3. take off calipers
4. remove pads
5. put new rotors on
6. hammer the pistons on the calipers in
7. put the pads on
8. tighten everything back

now the rear wheel wont budge..its like its lock. the ebrake is also down. help if you know what i did wrong. thanks

 

The pistons you hammered in also have to be screwed in. That is why it has those notches in them. Your pistons are not decompressed the way they should be.

Should have done a smidgin of research before doing this. Oh well.

is there a way to fix it other than buying new calipers?? also the link you have is a how to remove a crank pulley

Wow. A.) never hammer brake calipers or pistons, ever. B.) rear disc brakes use a screw-type piston to actuate the pads.

You probably destroyed both calipers. Remanufactured ones from Autozone are about $70 each with core . That sucks, broham.

and i tried the c-clamp on the rear (didnt know i had to turn it) and of course it didnt go in, so i used the hammer..stupid me

Not stupid: just inexperienced. Hey, you made the piston go in, right?

Unfortunately, the rear calipers are pretty sensitive and you can destroy them very easilly. Yours are almost definately toast

 

ill take off the calipers and see if they're gone or not

 

yea dont feel bad i tried the c clamp thing on my moms vr6 with rear disc fortunatly i didnt force it and figured it out.

 

try sticking a piece of metal in them once you remove them and step on the brake. So you dont pop the piston out and see if they still work. Im pretty sure there junk now, you can allways take them apart and see if its all good. Ive never taken a brake apart before so im not sure whats all involved with that.
