i have a 91 civic si, and i keep seeing all over the place that the 91 si has rear discs, but my civic has rear drum brakes. it also has a sunroof, and it had a/c until i removed it. no power steering, etc. so there is no doubt that it is an si, and my title and the previous owner say its an si. there also is no dpfi-mpfi wiring swap, hackjob or plug and play. straight mpfi all the way. and the engine is a d16a6. i dont get why i dont have rear discs. even the guy at the parts store when i called to order brakes said that he has that the rear are disc brakes in his computer. the car was in a wreck from a previous owner, but a wreck bad enough to wipe out the whole rear end would deffinetly be a salvage situation, and there is no "S" on my title anywhere. and the vin numbers match out of the honda book for what a si vin should read. or am i missing something. anyone have any ideas? thanks

No..I've seen a CRX Si with rear drums too
Owner of a shop told me that most of them came with disk..but a very few Civics and CRX's Si's came with drum.

Never seen a '90-'91 Civic Si with 'em... or a '90-'91 CRX Si without 'em. Probably about as rare as the "sunroof delete" option that supposedly existed on the Si models.

ALL '89-91 Civic Si (ED7) models came from the factory with rear drums. No exceptions.
'88-89 CRX Si (ED9) models had rear drums.

Let me clarify: I've never seen a '90-'91 Civic Si that came STOCK from the factory for the US market with rear disks on it. Sure, you can put them on, but I can do that to my '91 DX, too - it doesn't mean Honda built it that way (only that they should have!).

ok. thanks for the clarification.
i would like to swap rear discs, but seeing as how ive already removed my a/c and 50% of my interior, i guess weight savings is what im after.. although it would probably just be easier to swap trailing arms than change the shoes when they finally wear out. less parts to mess with.

No problem. It's funny - Majestic Honda actually LISTS a "RR Brake Caliper" for the Civic Si (right side only, apparently - no left is listed). And their price is only $11,747.00. So it must be a REAL rare piece. Oh, and Majestic's pic of the parts diagram for the rear brakes shows... the front suspension's exploded diagram. That's pretty damn handy of them.
That's one big reason I've pretty much quit using them. Their website maintenance is for ****. They just redid their site, and it's freaking WORSE now!
for their prices;
for their website's functionality.

yeah i noticed that too. i usually have to close my browser and go back to the parts catalog in a new instance to get parts to refresh..
the rear disc weigh more than than the drum by about 8 pounds for side. If you want light weight get some HF drums for your Drums that will save 5 pounds a side over the stock drums not to mention that the drums or disc is the worst type of weight of the unsprung rotating vararity.
The only reasons for getting disc is better cooling(only a issue if you road race or do track days) and ease of pad installition compared to brake shoes.
The disc you can use can come off of a 90-91 CRX Si, 92-95 Civic Si, 92-95 ABS civic, 90-01 Integra(all except Type R) and and Del Sol with rear disc. These part are all the same and all the hubs will bolt on to you trail arms. Also except the 90-93 integra you can bolt on the trailing arms to.
