Default Did I mistake buying a CRX?

I have had 2 civic HB's one DX and one SI, and then a CRX HF.

The Si was quick enough with a decent cruise rpm in 5th.

But I bought a B16 CRX and I bought it for commuting to work, and have some get up and go at the same time. I think I made a mistake by buying the CRX for this purpose and thinking I probably should have bought a newer Civic SI, or atleast a car that wouldnt have such a high rpm 5th gear.

Should I have not bought a B16 CRX for this purpose?

Put in an LS fifth gear. It'll take a weekend, and you'll love it.

Yes, fifth gear revs are higher than what the average driver is used to. But seriously, I would not worry about it. The B16A is made to run these kinds of revs reliably for extended periods of time. Fuel economy is also not bad, even with these high revs. Just try driving the car. Those high revs actually start to grow on you after a while. And not needing to downshift for passing or hill climbing is priceless.

Yeah, I've been wondering how it would be on the road w/ my 91' Si (crx). The drive was 6 hours each way...ugh. I was really surprised about not needing to downshift going up hills/mountains. The drive was from NM to southern CO w/ an elevation change of about 2,000 ft. In my 00' EX I would always have to speed up to about 90-100 mph before I hit the hill and halfway up I would still have to downshift into 4th...still losing speed. With the CRX yesterday I left it in 5th and would even gain speed going up. I thought it might do that, but was still very surprised.

**edit** however, it did kinda suck w/ all of the vibration and everything. The car like most needs a little bit of work. Does anyone have the part# and know of a good write-up to do the LS 5th gear?

just swap in a hf motor...great gas mileage and low rpm 5th gear.

seriously though, i think you can find someone willing to swap a ls tranny for your b16 one

I guess I'm the only one that likes the b16a trannies. **** they accel better than anything, and yeah your rpm are higher in 5th, but you never need to downshift, and if you stay out of vtec your gas milage is still fine, so I really dunno what the problem is. I don't mind it one bit.
