my car got vandalized...AGAIN..need and alarm...suggestions
well afterschool today i go out to the parking lot to my gsr...i stop by to pick up some friends when she asks wat happend to my passenger side door...i look over and the black seal over the window is totally off. i step out my car like wtf!? and i go over and see the whole black seal part along w/the side of the door is separated from the window and looks like someone shut the door halfway but didn't fully close it when its really closed all the way. obviously some idiot had tried to pry my door open w/little luck and left it there. i went to the dealership today and they gave me an estimate...charging me and arm and a leg @ $1064.82 3-5 days in the shop damn haters!!!
well anyways after all this im definitely getting a car alarm for my gsr....this is the second time this has happend to me and im not taking anymore chances...i have no knowledge at all in the car alarm section...wats a good system to get and around how much would i be looking to pay for a good alarm system...thnx guyz

In your case I'll suggest to buy a well known brand name alarm with dual stage shock sensor, glass sensor and, if it is within your budget, a dual zone microwave radar. This will keep anyone who gets too close to your car warned about your car has a security system. This type of setup emits a warning shirp calling people's attention if somebody wonders around your car with not too good intentions. Also, don't settle for a cheap or "never heard of" alarm. Most likely this kind of systems don't offer much protection if any.

I'm looking into getting a basic alarm unit for my car, something w/ a couple nice things, but doesn't have a huge list of bells and whistles:
Clifford Arrow 3 (Lowest model Clifford, still very good, very nice options) $160 or so...
Clifford Concept 100 (G4 Technology, step up from the Arrow 3, couple more features) $180 or so...
Those are the main two that I'm looking into getting, read up on them, they are both very good alarms.
Maybe in your case spend a little bit more money for the highest end alarm, but a basic alarm w/ a couple nice extra features will do the trick if it's properly installed.
Goodluck, I'll keep you updated on which one I get, you do the same.
Also msg Mugensi00 he knows a lot about these things, helped me out in my decision making.

this may sound stupid...by why would you get a glass break sensor if you have microwave and shock?
Microwave deters those nearby, shock deters hard bumps. Would'nt the microwave pick up the brick in your car when it's thrown in ?

wow man u guyz really kno about this stuff..im alarm stupid...i would want somethig like a proximity sensor...know when the bad guyz are bout to strike so i can run outside to beat their azz ...
question for teken... What if you get pulled over by the cops? Do you have some kind of card that says its alright to steal the car? or do you load it up onto a flatbed truck or something? where can i learn more about repo-men? sounds very interesting..
what are you doing w/o an alarm on a GSR.. anyway my friend lives in Jersey and just had his 2nd GSR stolen.. so i hear its pretty crazy in New Jersey.. I live in Cali so i have no idea.. anyway I have and like my Clifford AvantGuard alarm.. im sure Teken knows a way around this alarm.. but to me it seems effective (havent had my car stolen since i put it in)...
i have a proximity sensor where when sum1 comes up to the car (close) it will chirp.. and also have a shock/impact sensor where if they hit the car, cause impact, etc.. it will either chirp or go off depending on the force... and i have a tilt sensor where if they try to lift up the car the alarm is allerted too.. I have window and sunroof closure.. so whenever my alarm is armed.. it will close the windows and sunroof... but if in the event i leave the windows or sunroof open sumhow if they stick their hand into the cabin.. the proximty sensor will detect that..
i also have a pager w/ my alarm which will alert/page me tellin me which sensor (door, trunk, hood, impact, etc..) is going off so i can come out and kick the guys *** or shoot him in the back of the head.... also have a hood pin, battery back up, back up siren, and i have sirens inside the cabin... one time the tire alignment guy had the alarm autoarm on him while the car was on the alignment rack.. hahah he moved while the alarm autoarmed.. and i guess that tripped the proximity sensor ... and the internal sires as well as the external (hood) siren went off.. HAHAHA he was holding his hears and said they were ringing for about 20 mins Lolz... poor guy... i should have put it in valet mode....
it has multipoint immobilizer and all your common features..door lock, unlock, remotely adjustable sensors, false alarm prevention, flashing parking lights, anyway it has lots of features.. and i've had no problems w/ my Clifford... my dad has used Clifford alarms in his cars since the 80's... i really like my AvantGuard...
and NO i dont work for Clifford... im just a satisfied customer...
DEI/Viper (which also owns Clifford), Alpine, all make good alarms...
I live in So cali near LA.. i think if i didnt have an alarm.. my car would be long
gone...
i also have a Club steering wheel lock which i bought a long time ago, and i just put in a hood lock last week, bolted down all my amps w/ security/one way screws, and i have a kill switch that i have to press even after the alarm is disarmed in order for the car to start/crank over...
im not claiming my car is theft proof.. but it takes a lil more to steal my car than a car that has nothing...
always use your e-brake and turn your wheels to the curb.. this makes it a LITTLE harder for the towtruck guy to get yor car.. but if he has a flatbed.. kiss your car good bye = (.. sad world we live in..
i also removed all the rods and disconnected my power door lock switch at the doors.. so that a theif cant slim jim my doors by trying to latch onto the door rods inside the door.. and they cant spread the door/window and try to flick the unlock switch to open the locks... i use either my remote or a switch near the shifter/center console to unlock my door...
dont ask me how any of this is done.. my homeboi installed my alarm... installation is important also.. for the security of my car i wont go into detail about where the brain is hidden.. but my friend cut all the wires short.. and used all black or red wire so that the theif cant decode what wire is what based on wire color... he also soldered everything, and wrapped all the wiring in electrical tape, then in wire conduit, then zip tied everything, the wiring looks very stock/clean... he also zip tied and anchored the wires at several places.. so u cant simply yank the wiring and expect the brain to follow.. it pretty much took him the whole day to install my alarm.. he took aparth the whole dash and stuff to hide the brain and everything.. good thing i didnt have to pay for the install.. it would have been expensive..
we also got an old alarm case and took out the electronics and put that high up in the dash.. this is to throw the theif off into thinking the brain is there.. but its not. its a hollow alarm brain box ..
but yeah make sure u have a good install
dang i think sum1 who tries to steal my car will get mad at taht and just vandalize the hell out of it = (...
w/ all that said.. im sure a PRO would have my car in a matter of seconds if he really wanted it.. but i guess i've been lucky..
when im at home.. they would have to disarm my house alarm, break into the garage its padlocked on both sides on the inside.. plus theres the garage door opener (yeah its a pain to unlock in the morning b4 using the door opener..) then disarm my alarm, cut the club, and find the kill switches... so umm yeah prolly not worth it to go thru all that for my car..
not to mention got a pit and a rotty that would LOVE to chew them up = )...
just curious TEKEN.. what do you think of my setup? since your a Pro-theif (by legal trade) you prolly think its funny or something cuz you prolly kno a way to take my car huh? anyway i'd appreciate it if you'd reply.. cuz i respect/look forward to hearing your expertise/knowledge/feedback on my setup.. thanks in advance..

Damn, sounds like a lot of work, but it is all worth it, bc your car is still yours! Sounds like an awesome setup. Guys, do everything you can to help "deter" your car. I know we all love power door locks, but it is worth it to de-activate them. There are some great tips around here, and Teken can guide you in the right direction. I have learned so much from him and others.
all i gotta say is.. its good to have friends that are installers... if i were to pay a shop to do all this it would have cost a few hundred in labor alone easily... my cost was buying my homeboi lunch and dinner since it took the whole day.. and we got to catch up on old times and just kick it the whole day...
its cool to kno my windows and doors will always be locked.. even if i forget to arm my alarm.. it turns itself on after the doors are closed and 30 seconds have elapsed... i usually just walk away from my car really slow and watch it auto arm (put less wear on the remote) since i only press the remote to disarm...

hook the alarm up to a seperate batter in your trunk or in the spare tire well and hide the brain do not put unber the dash...... maybe under your seat or in your seat.... also put a siren in your car as well as outside......
hope this helps

Teken: thanks but sorry can you explain what "power shunt regulated" means? i dont know what that is.. thanks..
i also have several kill switches that I wont discuss over the internet that need to be done even if the alarm was disarmed... my friend did the install for me (he's a pro installer).. so yeah i think its better than the average install you would get if you just walked into the shop..

------So you give the chassis a little lightning bolt to burn the alarm?
That's what i thought he meant...
Is it possible to hook up the alarm to a different battery, and then have that battery recharge while the car is on by means of a switch/relay system?
This way, when the car is turned off (and the 'switch' turned off) the alarm battery will not be connected to any of the car's grounds and therefore any shock/spike will not actually get to the alarm...
what do you think tekken?

I'm curious as to what teken thinks of this too. I was playing around with the idea of another battery, but how would you have the alternator recharge both? Prolly have to upgrade to a bigger alternator
canadian tire, or i guess pep boys in the us has a special thing that can recharge two batteries and switch between them. Its used for installing a two battery system in a cargo van. I don't think you'd need a bigger alternator, because what that THING (can't remember what it's called) prob switches between your 2nd battery and your main one (remember, you can unhook your main battery while driving and still drive...it's used for starts) this way, when it switches off your main and onto secondry, secondary will recharge, then u switch back when it's full (the THING has a meter on it)
i'll see if i can find the name in the catalogue when i go home for the weekend

It allows you to run two batterys at the same time. They are Isolated from each other. In other words if you ran one dead the other would still be fully charged. They still get charged at the same time. They are fairly cheap, $80 for a 120 A isolater i think.
