Rust question
Wont be cheap, Ill gaurantee that, they have to be cut out and rewelded into place, bondo'd and painted x2. Im getting my car ready for paint and Its taking me twice as long to get the rust out on the quarters as it did for everything else.
yeah true, wont be cheap. unless you do it yourself like me. =D
1.buy a new panel
2.cut out rusted areas
3.grind to metal and clean rust **** off
4.weld new panel on, make sure its in the right place
5. bondo, sand, seal, prime and prime and prime.
6. wet sand
7 prime seal, and paint your color.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1237275 I bought a rear quarter panel of this place for $36.00 shipped. Better than paying OEM prices.
Thanks for the link exploder101
I got pics of the rust on the hatch today, please ignore the fruity pin stripping.

Here is the rear driver fender lining

Here is the front of the wheel well

The hatch seems to be in good shape mechanically and the owner is a great guy I have known a long time. Im just worried how much this rust will cost me? What do you guys think?
Pretty much all EGs from the northen part of the States and Canada are gonna be like that. You either have to live with it or pay the price to repair it (and if you find one that's rust free your again gonna pay the price, no way around it).
thats a fair amount of rust. a lot of it comes from the inside out, so if you were to pop off the inner panels in the trunk, you'll see it from the inside too.
The only way to fix it, is yes, get it cut out, grind and/or sandblast the metal, get new patches welded in.
the only way to make it last is to get the car rustproofed yearly. that is, get oil spays done on the insides of the panels.
Another bad spot is around the fuel outlet. yours looks ok, but it may have rust on the inside of the panel. Also look for rust coming through on the tailgate. I have found the egs to be good around the windshield and door bottoms.
I hate rust, so when i bought my eg, i made sure it was a rust free one. Had to pay 4g cdn to get it tho, 2 years ago. Its a lot easier to keep it from rusting in the first place than it is to fix it.

not with just hand sandpaper. a power sanding wheel to take out the pivots and expose bare metal.
For surface rust there are primers available that are supposed to seal it if you get the loose stuff off, but sounds shoddy to me.
And as said, if the rust is coming from the inside, like a lot of this car pictured, you've got to cut it out, or it won't last
