I used the Wire trick to check out what code my ECU is throwing. It came out to...

So I'm thinking code 70?? I Checked on the ECU thread and it's not there. So I Checked it out again and again and I keep getting the same code. Can Anyone Help me out with this?? P

It's a 97 hx with CVT (yea i know )

The car starts and runs fine. But when I try to put it into any gear (reverse or Drive) the car shuts off. If I put it in Nuetral and Rev it high then drop it into gear the car studders like crazy then gets going. But as soon as I come to a stop it turns off.

I counted like.... 1..123 2....123...3...123...4....123...5 etc. etc.

It wasnt like 1... 1...2...3.. it was 123 just like that. If you get it? TPS Sensor? Is that on the tranny? Some guy I took it too took one of the sensors off the tranny and he said it didn't have that problem but it ran incredibly slow without any power?

Hmm I'm about to go check this out? I'll check the CEL again see if it is code 7. If it is i'll see if its the TPS. Thanks So much for your help JDMlyfestyle. Everyone always turns away once they see a post with the letters "HX" in it.

Hmm I think it IS code 7? I can count only 1 mississippi between the time the Cel comes on and off? So the TPS Sensor? Is that why the car would be turning off when I put it into gear??

the way you described it, it sound like code 1. when its finished displaying the code(s) it will repeat so if it keeps blinking once and then pausing its code 1.

But remember... the car Studders and Dies when I put it into gear. So could that be because of a bad TPS Sensor?

I've checked the code numerous times and it seems to be like 1...2...3...4...5...6...7..........Restarts again....1...2...3...4...5...6...7... Restarts again
It always flashes 7 times at the same speed then theres a long pause and it does it again. So I'm guessing code 7? I can count 1 Mississippi between Flashes.

BTW: How Do I go about removing the TPS Sensor? Doesnt seem to have a real screw :-\

alot of people just cut grooves into the rivets/screws. and use a flathead.

that doesnt make any sense! if it was code 7, it would flash 7 times within a few seconds. sounds like a code 70 but there isnt one!!!

it must be code 7 though..... tps. and yes that could cause your car to sputter.

Only when I put it into gear though? (I have a CVT Tranny if that matters)

If I put it in nuetral and floor it then drop it into gear it sputters sputters then goes on its way like if everything was fine. As soon as I come to a stop it sputters and dies. TPS Sensor problem?

Yeah, it sounds like a TPS problem. There is an easy way to check this, get a multimeter and hook it up to the TPS and check for voltage, with the key on but the engine off, the voltage should read .5V at closed throttle and 4.5V at WOT (wide open throttle). Just slowly open the throttle and check for any dead spots where the voltage drops. Hope this helps.

Youre counting the flashes wrong.
Dont count how long there is between each flash, but how long the cel is lit.
Long ones (about 1 whole second) are 10s
Short ones (about 1/2 second or less (as fast as you snap your fingers)) are 1s

Like everyone else says, it sounds like TPS
CVT or not, I cant find code 70 anywhere

Yea thats what I Figured lol.

But if it is a TPS problem. Would it be causing the symptoms stated above?
(The car shutting off ONLY when I put it into gear)
