Default PM6 Code 17: VSS?

What exactly does this code mean? Just that the cable isnt driving the gears inside the cluster and showing the speed/mileage?

To my knowledge there isnt anything electrical in the odometer for the car to know. I have been having cable problems, but the light first triggered when my speedo was working.

I think it might be something with the PM6 ECU only. I just swapped it in over my PM8 and that never set the light off.

Any help would be appreciated. The few posts I searched and found didnt help.

Speedo works, but the cable keeps sinking back into the connector that goes to the cluster. I'm not worried about that, I'm just wondering what exactly that code means is wrong? Just because it came on even when the speedo was working.

bump... my i get a vss code once and a while and my speedo works perfectly fine.

I do have a VAFC... maybe I messed up the ECU connection when I spliced.

Bump for more info.

The code 17 goes off in a PM6 when the VSS(on the back of your cluster) sends less then 5 pulses per second to your ecu. I think its 5 pulses...anyway, this is usually physical (the cable isn't turning the speedo properly) or electrical (the sensor is out of whack).

i had one of the vafc controllers hooked up then I took it out but left the speed sensor still spliced and unhooked. It only throws a code if I am engine braking between 45-60. just FYI
