if it is prior to air bags it is a bit easier ,,lets go with no air bag first........
from inside car at bottom of steering column , pull back carpet, remove the black cover , it will expose a flex joint that connect column to rack there are 2 10mm bolts, remove bolts, slide joint upward to disengage from rack

raise car , remove both wheels, remove cotter pins and 17mm castle nuts from outer tie rod ends, with hammer hit the knuckle part to separate tie rod ends from it, remove frt cross beam, remove frt exh pipe, remove shield for p/s rack lines 3 10mm bolts this will expose the lines , there are 4 lines 2 12 mm 1 14 mm and 1 17 mm make sure you use pipe wrenches and not to strip the head , oil will start pouring out get a pan so you wont make a mess, once lines are out grab a tir rod and turn wheels side to side a few times thus will almost empty the rack totally ,,remove the rack holding brakets 2 12 mm bolts on each side pay attention to how the rubber rack bushings are positioned ,,,once you have done all that rack should come out you might have to pull it all the way left to make it slide off easier .....once on the ground actually loosen up the 2 19mm nuts for the tie rod ends where you would do a toe adjustment it is easier to do so if rack is still mounted ,,you need to remove outer tie rod ends new rack comes with inner tie rods but not outers, when you reinstall them make sure you have as even possible threads on each side so your toes wont be way too far off
now if there is air bags, and you have to do this or you can damage cable reel , once you remove the 2 10mm bolts from the column flex joint make sure the wheels are straight ahead lock the steering wheel in place so it cannot turn ONLY then slide the joint up to separate from rack and when you put rack back in car make sure that the wheels are as straight as possible before you slide the joint back into the rack if done improperly you can brake cable reel , srs lite will come on, cruise will not work ,,,,,,you also have to realign car when done
