Default 95 gsr with skunk 2 stage 2 cams problems

my friends 95 gsr with header and intake ran a 14.4 on slicks, added skunk2 stage2 cams with valvesprings and retainers and skunk2 cam gears set at zero.
added apexi vafc left fuel at zero and vtec activation at 6k
problem is feels real slow(slower than stock) under 6k, then in vtec starts to pull way better.
ran best of 14.8 like this, whats wrong when under 6k that makes it so slow?

those cams perform better with higher compression. I am running sk2sg1 cams and have the same feeling. Both sets of cams like higher compression. These cams are usually meant for a higher redline to about 9k. gotta check that on a dyno though as every engine set-up is different.

you raised the vtec and did nothing else and expected it to be fast? seriously get that thing on the dyno.

you got to be kidding right. take that **** to a dyno and have it tunned. no aftermarket cam is a drop in cam, especially skunk stage 2.

yeah, you definitely cant just drop in that cam and expect big results. i knew a guy who had a 95 gsr special edition, and swapped the engine into a hatchback and put stage 3 cams in it( its a street driven car, hes a moron). the hatchback actually feels about the same as the integra did; he didnt tune the engine.

skunk2 stage1 cams, work with stock head, stock compression(but advised to raise)
skunk2 stage1 cams, minor head work needed, compression needs to be raised to get gains
skunk2 stage3 cams, race only imho. Engine work is a must.

dyno tuning is needed and some sort of stand alone, vafc/hondata/aem ems/and not limited to those.

Your are truly overcamming your motor. Your CR is no where near in the operating range of the skunk2 's.

11.5:1 is more like it rather than the stock gsr's CR. 11.5:1 is more or less near the operating range.

We worked out that the minimum static CR that would keep SK2 Stage 2's (assuming an intake ABDC closing spec of 49 degrees which hasn't yet been confirmed) at the 15% gain in cranking pressure that you want from using the dynamic CR calculator was 11.6 and that 12:1 would be ideal. So there's your operating range for that.

You may want to throw some pistons in there along with a HG. Theres your key for your situation. I gurantee you will see lower ET's...

FYI...the Skunk2 stageIII primary lobes are less than the stageII's, and are very streetable. Most stageIII + cams try to acquire low primaries and large Vtec lobes for this "streetablility" factor. My S2S3's idle at 900 rpms with no problems....daily driven

Prolly gain over GSR but maybe not as much as more appropriate cams for your compression (eg S2S1) or not as nice a powerband.
