I believe its the b17 and should be faster. I mean the 92-95 were fast in those years.

i'd go with the hatch just because its cheaper to swap a motor into it. the only available swaps for the newer civ's are K series

motor is faster and has more torque. the car is a great daily driver and looks good too its just that parts arent as common and swaps are expensive. its up to you though depends on your budget and what you want to do.

To sum up the other answers and add clairty.

The 2002 EX has a D17A2. To my experience, they are not faster than the 92-95 hatches.

The nice thing about the 92-95 is the ease of which you can put a b-series motor in and get big hp. Additionally, the SOHC motors have turbo and SC kits. The aftermarket is HUGE for them.

The aftermarket for the D17 isn't as big. The engine swaps are gonna be more expensive. Afterall the cars and engine swaps are newer.

What are your goals, and what can you afford? What body style to you like better?

Hope this helps
