Morning, just collected a black 'Type R', 2000, 16k on clock, Nice! Now a work collegue has a VW golf 1.8t and he's remapped the turbo, now its pushing over 200+bhp ... are there any simple mods to improve whats already high perfomance engine so i can fully give him a 'Custard Pie', i'm reading air filters and exhausts can actually reduce power !?
p.s. in England there is only 1 model, the 'type R', dont know what all this GSR is ???

Welcome!! Another Euro ITR!!!!
You should be able to spank the VW already, because it's much heavier.
First learn how to launch and when to shift (8800 rpm on the tach).....
After 3 months or so (for getting used to the car) you can remove the intake resonator, put a K&N filter and a JDM header + testpipe (Carsound cats are not available here in Europe). Result = 200+ hp at the crank!!!

Jason,
Air Filters and Exhausts can reduce your power, depending on which ones you get. I'm happy with my AEM CAI and JDM 4-1 header and high flow cat(from SMS Products). I think a good Cat-back would further increase my performance though.

yeah Jason don't buy low quality products for your car, I guess that goes without saying. But if something is heinously cheap...think twice. Modding this car right is expensive which is why mine is still basically stock.
As for GS-Rs - don't concern yourself with them. They are for pansies just like VWs

G'day. Where are you guys going to race? Does UK have an autobahn? If so, VW 1.8t w/ right ECU and up-grades will probably pull away from you at 100+ mph. I thought euro 1.8t can be had in a lighter shell than the U.S. ones.
As for mods, with intake, headers and exhaust you might see 10 hp gain. Maybe you might also look into 4.93 ATS final drive to pick up your speed at highway speed. G'luck and welcome to the club.

Welcome to HT Jason,
Glad to see another Euro ITR. I'm gonna paste a nice list of things to consider when doing mods. I'm sure you'll get my drift after you read it all. Good luck,
A.
In order of importance:
1. A good performance driving school, $2300. would be a nice week, and as the commercial says it will eventually be: "Priceless!"
2. A set of light weight rims and track tires and a weekend at a PDA event like VIR or another course equivelent.
3. A set of "LW" rims and track tires and as many Auto-X's as possible in the shortest period of time, "hopefully with an instructor."
* Optional race pads and or SS lines to stop-stop when you're done go-goin...
These top 3 will teach you how to really drive correctly and or Be the fastest R out there. You can add as many mods as you like but, a better driver him/ herself will
always outperform a lesser driver on a course and day to day in a car like the Integra Type-R!
Other stuff:
4. A high flow filter in the stock airbox
5. A good quality header with at least a 60mm or 2.5" collector mated to a High Flow cat, IE: SMSP, JDM/OEM/ITR, Hytech, Toda, Spoon,
6. A good set of camgears and a day at the dyno to tune the car, "often overlooked."
7. A higher Final Drive JDM/ITR or ATS.
8. A lightweight Flywheel.
9. A set of brake pads and SS braided lines.
10. by now or earlier you've used up your stock street rubber, "that is if we started from a new R" and it's time to get another set of good street tires.
Good luck, the lists can get huge to include internals and VAFC's and lots of other major or minute stuff but, remember that really learning how to drive usually
makes the most difference. I love just learning what My car and I are capable of. I find out more and more every time I hit an event. Do you?
A.
PS if you start out with a yellow R, you will already have a 30 HP gain over the others anyway, and if you slap on a BIG Toda power sticker then you'll beat C5's all

learn to handle the car first, like some1 suggested, maybe a driving school. very benificial indeed
once u learn what your limits are on your car, then mod up. I/H/E, good set of dampers, SS brake lines and a set of sticky tires and you will be very happy for awhile.

Hey Jason... you might want to consider some poly eurathane mounts or inserts
for your motor and trans mounts, and maybe a z-10 kit. Your big advantage over
the Vdub is a nice limited slip, so you should be able to get away faster off the line.
But... since I hear it rains almost as much over there as it does here, wheel hop is going to be a problem, and the more power you have.. the worse the problem will get....
Oh and have fun with your car, it doesn't matter who is quicker, the winner is the guy with the biggest smile...
Update, me an me mate just had a tinkle, right outside Buckingham Palace as it happens. from take off the VW picked up much earlier (his boost kicks in a 2.5k appartently) but when i hit the band, see ya !! possibly from the tail end of 2nd into 3rd is where i had the advantage. Couldnt take it much futher so not a concise experiment but enough for pats on back and major smiles ... hee hee
