test-only will not accept my check light due to o2 sensor..help!
as title stated..i got a 96 gsr and i have a check light on and i don't know what it is. dmv require a test-only so i took it to a tes-only center and they told me they will not test if there's check light on..so their neighbor decided to do a scan and they say its the o2 sensor problem. What should i do? any help is appreciated..need to get rid of check light fast..for test-only..thanks
the code will be for the first or second O2 sensor. Re do the code, check the code postie on the main page and then replace that o2 sensor. you could try to clean it first, but you might just have to replace it.
Do you have you cat on? do you have both o2's hooked up?

you have to fix the cel, theres no point for the place to run the test cuz you will fail anyways with a cel even if u pass the sniffer..u could disconnect your battery and then go straight to the test center...the ecu usually takes ~40-50miles to trip the cel again. but if its a problem with your primary heated o2 then your probably gunna fail anyways
i went to auto zone and borrowed a scan and it says that the o2 sensor is malfunction by heat circuits or something like that. what should i do? thanks

you have to read the code to find out which one.
jump the ecu, and it will blink:
1 O2A - Oxygen sensor #1
2 O2B - Oxygen sensor #2

doesn't the GSR only have 1 o2? If not then use the scanner to check the code again...it should say the primary or secondary o2 sensor. After you get that, just run down to your local parts store and purchase either the "primary" or "secondary" o2 sensors.
my 96 gsr is a obd II and i thought it comes with two o2 sensor from after cat and before cat?
ok..thanks guys for your feedback..i'll run down and check up on the scanner again and see if it's the primary or secondary o2 sensor and try puttin on a new one see if the check light goes away..
Primary O2 is used for closed loop operation and adjusts the fuel trim (important). Secondary O2 sensor is only used to check the cat's operation... has absolutely no effect on how the the engine runs (not really important). Only change the O2 sensor that is needed... in fact they're pretty pricy especially for an OEM one.
ohh nevermind guys but thanks for your help though. this morning i jacked up my car and went under and try to check the o2 sensor and when i pull it, it'll just come right off..i guess it was loosed.
now rest your ecu and drive it for a day or two see if it throws the code again. If it does you will have to replace it.
