Default Did I get lost again?

I searched and didn't see anyone that knew the truth about air suspension. Is H-T just for performance?

If not I will share my knowledge on air suspension so that I can be a useful part of this site.

I have built air ride for cars and trucks. I can help you find the best parts or cheap ways to get air on your ride. I can also answer many technical questions.

I am currently building a 93 civic buble SI. It will have a body drop in the front and cantilever in the rear.
I also have a 92 prelude w\ H22A as my daily driver.

Hope I can help some of you out.

Although this would be the right forum for discussing air bagged cars, you don't find much discussion about them here normally. Although they are popular on show cars and can be used on the street to a degree, air bags don't tend to be considered as real performance upgrades to improve the handling for street, track and competition use which is what most of this forum readership is into.

He's right.

Although air ride isn't discussed much here, i'm curious...I've seen people body drop a truck, do you do a car the same way? This question probably ties into how you body drop a car, but what exactly is a "cantilever"?

AutoX would suck with air but it is pretty nice for daily driving. It sucks tryin to turn with your wheels tucked inside your fender. Air cylinders don't hurt drag racing other than the addition of a couple pounds.

GreenOOEX
Hondas have a unibody so most people don't do a true body drop.
I have seen them though. You have to cut the whole lower part of the car out and build a frame(or use a truck frame and make it work).
Since you don't need a body drop to lay out the back many people just build a new front clip. I Simply build a strut bar between the upper control arms to relocate the cylinders inboard and higher. Then I tub the wheel wells. You can also shorten the dapaner fork.

As for cantilever think of a see-saw. Put the suspension on one side and the bag/cylinder on the other end. Then you can move the pivot point closer to the air suspension to multiply the lift out.

If you need more detail/pictures let me know. Are you thinking of baging your car? I am pretty busy baging my girlfriends neon right now but I will keep checking here for new posts.

Thanks for the info man. I don't plan on bagging my car. Having a vehicle that handles well and having air suspension don't mix. I have a friend with an air bagged truck and he always jokes about body dropping my car, so I was just curious how it would be done.

If you want to post pictures, go ahead. Like I said I'm curious as to how this works. Always willing to learn

No not my personal work. But I am a good welder. I am doing my first canti right now. It is going in the civic. With shocks and cylinders not bags(I haven't seen it done before). I have done 2 drop bars for the front(I will find pics when I get home). I have "baged" a Tacoma, S-10, Isuzu Pup, 95 Accord, 90 Accord, Neon, and Intrgra. But these "of course" were done with /for friends(mostly at my shop). And I have done a lot of smaller things for baged vehicals. Like adding shocks and engine driven compressors(must have in my book).

I got bored and figured out the Law for cantilevers. Out put varies directly with b sub one and inversly with b sub 2. Where as b sub one and b sub two must equal one hundred percent. REMINDER-You lose nearly 20% when figuting force in a real world situation(friction is a bitch).

^cantilever with cylinder and shocks. Maybe I wasn't clear.
My 95 Accord had 4 cylinders, 6 3 way valves(to dogleg), shortened dampaners, drop bar, and alot of cuttin' to tuck my rims. And it would drag its *** off!

Sorry no pictures with the drop bar. It got wrecked shortly after that.

I am not about to but air suspension on my cars, but I think this stuff is cool. Learning a little about the dark side!

Don't be hatin!

Actually have been toying with the idea of doing a street rod for a while, figured air would be the way to go, so is kinda cool to see how all it works.

tsk tsk, I thought I asked you to not talk **** about other people's cars. I don't need to post your g-ride up, do I?

Anyway, I think air-ride is cool, our Audi has pneumatic air suspension from the factory, and my dad has a VAGCOM to alter the ECU for the air-ride. It basically tricks the computer into thinking the lowest(sport mode) setting is the highest, which undoubetdly SLAMS the **** out of if we ever feel the need to, bwuhahahaha.

And about the street rod comment, I was thinking the same for a longgest time. I think it would be sick to do a '50 Merc on air, black with purple/pink ghost flames, and top it off with a ZZ430 crate motor, fuel injected of course.

Pretty dumb response. If you dont wanna talk about it, dont post in it. Simple as that. I build lots of stuff on air and I love it. for doing something different.

I have a 92 prelude H22a that got me looking at this site. Me and my father restored a 53 chevy a few years ago and I turned an eclipse into a base cannon back when I was in high school. So I have a lot of intrests. But, I found so much good info here that I wanted to help contribute. I started this post to help people not give people a chance to show how close minded they are.

If there is any specific questions I can start with them. Otherwise I will just start posting the basics.

whoever is flaming this guy, needs to chill out.

he's being polite, trying to extend a hand to those that are helpful, and knows what he's talking about. If you can't handle the fact that people do different things than you, then maybe you should reconsider your existance in this world.

Since a few people have shown an intrest, I am going to start a new post with basic air suspension information and just add to it as I find time and notice things that need to be added to. Then I will delete this one.

Actually, i have heard that the air based suspension that was developed for the WRX was quite good. I forget who made it, but the same technology could easily be adapted to a honda.

The only downside to the system would be weight, which, as honda owners, we cant afford to gain much.

PS drop bars, imho, are a stupid thing to use on the highway, destroying a perfectly good road that we are paying, with tax money, to have to keep up. ok, end of rant.

Don't worry I don't hurt the road. Much. I mostly just remove the extra reflectors and cure tailgaiters of there bad habits. People tend not to tailgait you after you throw sparks all over there windshield.

I remember something in an import mag about the WRX suspension but I can't remember which one it was. I guess I never should have experimented with all those drugs in high school.

By the way a drop bar raises where the cylinders/bags mount. Making the car sit much lower. Look at the bars under the hood of those pictures I posted. You are probly thinking of those bars people used on the 70's to get back at tailgaters.
