JDM Front Headlights Yellow (ILLEGAL??)
i just got some nice nokiya yellow bulbs for my h4-4 jdm headlights they needed some modification (grinding wheel) but then fit like a charm but the other day liiving outside of chicago i got pulled over and the copper told me it was illegal to have yellow lights but i tried explaining to him b4 i have been pulle over and i asked and have been told there are certain colors on the front lights u cant have like red, blue, and a bunch of other whacky colors, but i just wanna know for sure if anyone has any idea about this law if there is any
I know its illegal in Cali to have any neon colors in your headlights, and any sort of LED's on your car. Basically anything that distracts the eye.
i'm pretty sure the DOT requires you to have clear lights for your headlights and that amber or yellow lights are for fog use only. if you don't want to get pulled over, don't use them.
what does the package the lights came in say? Does it say DOT approved or for show use only?

They are most likely illegal, but are becoming really popular.
It's like back in the day, the cool thing to do was to run ion baby blue headlights. This was really popular in southern cali back in 96'.
Then people went back to white...then to the "HID" bluish white color...and now yellow.
So now....wait, what was I talking about?
Damn Im old...

my cop friend told me its only legal if its fog lights, if they're headlights its a no no. but he said he doesnt really give a flyin f*ck. and a sheriff told me he'd give me a ticket for having KAAARAAAZZZYYY lights (said it exactly like that) but he's a dick. in my head i was saying "**** off go fly a kite".
I live in Hilo, a town. LOL. Anyways no one in the Hilo District has pulled me over. As soon as I go out 30 miles in the outskirts, I guess that is what you would call it, I get pulled over. Well, it's not the only reason why I got pulled over. He says there has been car thefts and my car looked conspicuous. Anyways, I told him why yellow light was good and he suggested me getting foglights. I told him I couldn't afford foglights so he let me go.
Well, I got jdm yellow foglights on my car now and still running the yellow bulbs. The headlights don't look much yellow now since the fogs contrasts the yellow more. So yeah, I got pulled over and got a warning.
Now here's another story for plate relocaters. My friend got pulled over for having a plate relocater. I have one too. Anyways, he told the cop that the plate has to be mounted on the bumper. The cop told him that the plate needs to be mounted in the center of the bumper. I think the cop was giving a hard time and giving him BS.

Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC). Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.

What you're talking about is the old school halogen lights that don't quite burn as brightly. And...when the bulbs start its process in "going out" they can appear yellow. I used to have an 88 accord that did that only on one side at a time....POS lights I swear....

all it says about turn signals are that they must be yellow or white, and you must have a reflector on the front. so since integra reflectors are there, it is probably illegal, but then again people get lenses with no reflectors all the time. i never had a problem with mine.
but to simply smoke them, no, it's not illegal.

I spent some time digging around Illinois's dept of trans website and didn't turn up much. There was an area to send in questions though, so I asked them to email me a reference to the actual DOT code/laws pertaining to what constitutes legal headlight in your state. Will let you know if they ever get back to me and if you want to ask for yourself, the question form is at http://www.dot.state.il.us/Email/Email.asp?from=1

"Thank you for writing the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The information you are requesting is not under the authority of IDOT.
Please contact the Illinois Secretary of State at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com
Daphne Kennedy
Illinois Department of Transportation "

On a sidenote, I took my GSR in for PA inspection today and they bitched about clear turn signal lenses...had yellow bulbs but they were flaked off and basicaly white. PA doesn't like white turn signals. Anyway....will try to ask the IL sec of state for ya tomorrow provided I gte my 'teg put back together after work.
As far as "It's legal in Cali therefore it's legal everywhere cause Cali has the most fux0rd govt in the world", well.....no matter how true that may be, it's not 'zactly a court-proven defense so I'll try to dig up the real code/laws for ya
