Default OT: Chicago land bodyshops?!?

As many of you might have heard, I recently was involed in an accident with #0111. Someone side-swiped me on the highway. Anyways, I need to take it into the bodyshop. The problem is, I don't know which one. I'm from Chicago, and the only good shops that I've heard of is, BodyWerks, and Gold Coast. Does anybody else from the Chicago area know of any good bodyshops I can take my car too, because I don't want to be stuck with a crappy paint job.

There are body shops, and there are body shops.

There are crappy body shops.

There are body shops that will do a decent job, that will use genuine Acura parts. These include Acura of Libertyville (the only dealer with its own in-house body shop) and Schaumburg Auto Body 847-524-3373.

If you're looking for the very best body shop in the Chicago area, go to The Last Detail in North Chicago. They're not inexpensive, though, and your insurance company might not cover the entire bill.

Yeah I would stay away from Body Werks for repair work. A few months after I bought my car someone keyed the whole drivers side. I finally decided to have Pat Hi Tech Auto Body on the Northwest side do it. Excellent job. I would recommend them to anyone.

If you want my info let me know and I will post up a phone number. The guy that owns it is brothers with the owner of Jaboc's Twin Honda.

I have dealt with Acura of Libertyville in terms of buying and with their service dept. and I liked them; but I never did much in terms of body work with them.

Ken (nsxtcjr) knows what he is talking about though, so go with whatever he says.

Sorry to hear about the accident; Don't worry though, when you get it back she'll be good as new

I don't think I can agree with ya on this one Chris. I took my car in for an oil change a few months ago and I was just completely ignored the whole time. I had set up an appointment earlier so when I had to take my car in, I was told to give my keys to the service manager but I was never notified about what kind of service I was getting. The guy just told me to sit down and wait for awhile I was sooo worried that they were gonna give me full service and charge me 500+ bux. Neway, they probably did a great oil change on my car but the service is not so good :thumbdow:

Yeah, my aunt had a bad experience with them on an oil change. I dunno, they were nice to me, but that doesn't mean much.

I will say this:

I HATE PAULY ACURA!!!!!!! HATE HATE HATE HATE WITH A PASSION. I took my car in for an oil change, they put a dent in the front bumper and they refused to pay for the repairs. They offered to pay half; but this was after calling the local Acura dealer in Arziona where I had gone for school and working out a "deal" with them. Thus, most likely Pauly the AZ dealer to do it at a discounted rate so basically it would only cost half the price quoted to me anyways (this is done quite frequently from what my insurance agent said).

I WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER DEAL WITH PAULY ACURA AGAIN, THEY ARE HORRIBLE. I DO NOT RECCOMMEND ANYONE GO TO THEM.

I have many more reasons not to deal with them, but would rather not say for various reasons, so I will leave it at that.

Don't go to body werks. Biggest hacks i have ever seen. I'm not sure whut the name of this 1 shop but my friend went there to get his Prelude worked on and they did an awesome job. Made it look brand new. Its a Honda Body shop and they are located on the north side Chicago on Peterson accross Rosehill cemetary. Sorry... I don't know the exact address. I'll try and get it for u. Goodluck!

i took mine to international body shop in Elmhurst, right next to acura dealer, on lake st. they use genuine honda parts. I thought they did a good job on my car. took em 40+ days though. but they're good. customer service though is not as good.

A few comments here...

1. At most dealers, the service department is separate from the body shop. So if you are not happy with the service department, don't let that keep you away from the body shop, or vice versa. It's the same thing as sales and service; a dealer may be great in one area, not so great in another.

2. I've been very impressed with the service that I (and many of my friends) have gotten at Pauly Acura. Chris is the one exception. For what that's worth - which is not much in this thread, since Pauly doesn't have a body shop.

3. Another body shop that has been very good (in the "competent" category) is Muller's Highland Park Honda, on the Edens at Clavey Road. And they use original Honda parts. Same ownership as Woodfield Acura in Hoffman Estates, so they have Acura expertise too.

Most of the better body shops around are similar to Pauly Acura's service department - you'll find that 8 or 9 people out of 10 will be very satisfied with the work there, but if you look for someone who's not happy for some reason, you can probably find that too. Your chances are pretty good at any of the shops recommended here (by myself as well as by others).

I've heard very good things about them as well.

Also, I use wreck and Roll Auto Body On Western Ave. near Pratt. They are excellent. They were affiliates of Leo's auto body on Ridge back in the day but opened up their own a few years ago. Speak to Bill and tell him you're a friend of Ericks. He has worked on my R a few times, and I would trust him with anything

Damn-, you guys know way too much about Chicago-area bodyshops, what do you with your cars

Anyone have a favorite import parts shop in the Chicago area, or does everyone buy their stuff online?

Different shops for different stuff. Plenty of on-line places, of course (all the ones that advertise in Sport Compact Car, for example). But there are a few places you can shop in person around the area.

If I wanted to buy a helmet and nomex other real go-fast parts, I would go to Northstar Motorsports in Barrington.

If I wanted to get the best detailing supplies (and advice) and apparel and other accessories, I would go to Emmons Coachworks in Villa Park.

If I wanted to rice out my R, I would take it to Drivers Image in Skokie.

Another place that's kind of a mix of all of these categories is Moto Persona in Lombard.

I say take it to Acura of Libertyville. I have always had work done there and I live about 1.5 hrs away. I have never had a problem with anything.
