Hey guys,
Ok i was about to do the timing belt on the car so i removed the spark plugs and plugs in the #3 and #4 cylinders were covered in oil. I think this means that the rings arent sealing and oil is getting shot all over my plugs, I'm going to run out and grab a compression tester and check it out but what is the probable diagnosis?

 

How'd the oil get all over the socket? It might be as simple as the sparkplug tube seals in your valve cover.

 

the oil just got there from the spark plugs, there wasnt any on there when i pulled the plug out, there was ALOT of oil on those bad boys

 

Replace the tube seals.

Bad rings or valve seals would leak oil into the cumbustion chamber. Then the firing tip of the plug would get cruddy with oily gunk, since oil it there would get partly burned.

Yours look like oil was sitting in a puddle ABOVE the threads of the sparkplug. That's not inside the combustion chamber.

Yeah, the part that ignites isnt all that bad loking the car does burn oil though. So this wouldnt let any oil into my engine to be burnt?

Yea, replace the seals, I had the same thing, replaced them and it's fine.

replace the valve cover seals youll be good to go.

Yea, my g/fs Civic was having that problem... I actually just pulled off the seals slapped some oil on them, and reseatted them... Its been fine since... If someone took off the valve cover, they can slip out of their positions and when u put the cover back on u may not notice they arent seated correctly...
