Maximum amount of horsepower stock sleeves can handle?
hey guys, i just ordered my SC61 to swap out my SC50 for next week, and im gonna be getting it tuned next week as well, but im not sure where i should cut it off, since im running stock sleeves, and i want it fairly reliable b/c its my daily driver. People have told me 350whp ill be safe, people have told me 400whp is safe, and people have even said 15psi is the limit....so whats the truth for stock sleeves on a b16? i have JE 9:1 pistons and Eagle rods, stock head, stock crank, and of course, stock sleeves....
The truth is people have made 550 WHP on the B-series motors, save for the B20. Boost pressure has no relevance to cracking your sleeves, read This Thread for more info. When your sleeves see probably 1000+ pounds of pressure during combustion, + or - 10, 15, 20, 25 pounds of pressure is just a drop in the bucket.
so you think my stock sleeves can handle 500whp? or do you think 400whp on the stock sleeves is safe?
yeah i read that thread on evans-tuning, its pretty good.

550 WHP on stock sleeves, IMO, requires pure C16 or any other 116/117/118 octane fuel, and a very good tuner. If you're at 550 and you try to mix in C16 with pump gas you can get an inconsistent mix which can cause your motor to knock, and at those power levels it doesn't take much detonation at all to kill the sleeves. I think 500 WHP on your standard fare of like 70/30 or 80/20 C16 and pump with conservative timing would be a safe limit that I would impose on my own car if it were stock sleeves.

Depends upon the size of the turbo and whether you want a reliable tune which will compensate for a cold day or a bad tank of gas.
With a reliable tune 400 on 93 octane with the sc61 will be fine. 370 whp would be more reliable and give you a nice buffer in case you get a bad tank of gas.
