[Dum Dee Dum Dum] Question of the year, something wrong with my fuel system!?!?!
This has been driving me nuts for the past few weeks. To start off I have no money ahahaha...I don't think it is relevant but I just wanted to throw that out there
CAR: 94 Accord LX F22<- ohh yeah you know this pig is FAST...like a glacier
PROBLEM FROM HELL: On hot *** days only and when I park it on black top surfaces the beast does not want to start. It cranks but doesn't want to go the full monty. I heard it could be my fuel pump going to **** on me, but it runs great if it starts. It runs normal at nights and on cloudy days and the car travels up hill without any problems. When it is hot I put that punk in accessory like ten fafillion times then crank it over to prime my engine and it works. When I do this though I believe I am suppose to hear the fuel pump working [the little buzzing noise that last for a few seconds and a wierd sounding click at the end] and I only hear this part of the time. Maybe the noise only happens part of the time because I put it in accessory back to back fast..or is it suppose to go everytime and the pump is going to crap on me on hot days.......
Possible Solutions: Hmm... maybe it is my fuel pressure regulator and the gas is seeping back into the lines when it is blistering hot outside ...
Or maybe it is my pump going to ****....I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR SOMEONE'S ELSES solution...SAVE ME

it sounds like a typical main relay issue remove the main relay, take it apart and solder the cracked soldering that you see in most cases it is 2 you might need a magnified glass sometimes the cracks are real small but they go all the way around the solder
YOU ROCK and Yes....GB is the best team in the known universe.....I'll check that **** out today
it sounds EXACTLY like a main relay. **** soldering it, just buy a new one from the dealer for like $35.
Mine went on my 98 accord, couldn't find any visual problems, replaced it and it's been good ever since.

yep, I agree. Sounds like a main relay.
Here's a couple links.

yo notorious why waste $ 35 when you can soder it for 50 cents i have sodered dozens and dozen of them in the past 5 years and none has failed yet....ehy 35 dollars could get you some extra gasoline
it could be more than that, it could be the cap and rotor, happened on my buds teg, we looked at it, checked the tolerances and put a new one and bam, wasnt the main relay at all. dont change stuff til you try stuff. Check the car for spark and for fuel before you check the main relay, this is way easier.

SPEED i totally agree with you buddy it is good to diagnose before replacing parts but to comment on what you said i have never seen a cap or rotor cause the problem that he is having i have however seeen dozen of main relays cause the exact same problem he is having
Always check things first before you start replacing random parts. You don't want to be wasting money on parts that you don't need to be replacing.
When my coil went on my Civic it went quick. I was on my way home from work and every time I would accelerate, the car should studder like it was misfiring real bad. Then when I was sitting waiting to turn the car died and took a little to start back up. Then all of a sudden while I was almost home I heard a "poof" out the exhaust and that was it. Car wouldn't start or anything. Once I found I wasn't getting a spark I pulled the wires, cap, rotor and coil. I checked the resistance on the wires and coil and noticed the coil had two white flash marks on it from it arching and blowing. His problem does sound like it's a main relay but he should deffinately make sure before he just starts buying parts.

not much gas these days. :sigh:
I couldn't find any visible cracking on mine, wasn't going to just re-solder the entire thing, so I bought a new one. To each their own.
I agree with everyone that of course you should troubleshoot before throwing parts at it, but this is classic main relay symptoms. I'll put $5.00 on it being the relay right now.

I went over to Advanced and they couldn't find the part on their computer..and I took off my Main Relay and looked for a number and didn't see one. Does any one have a part number for this or knows a website where i can get one...anyways I took it out and looked for any cracks and didn't see any. My car also had a spark and the fuel pump is working normally...so his does seem like my problem..but i need the part.
you pried apart the relay and looked at all the soderirng s and they were all ok??? did you use a magnifiing glass?? sometimes the cracks are so small it is hard to see
HhHAHAHA I TOOK IT OUT AND looked at the exterior I didn't know you could pry that beast open. I will do that first thing in the morning... i mean i took it out of it's main cover if that is what you mean. and looked at the first layer of things ..yeah i didn't know that you could pry it open
I have had same problem for years and was told it probably was relay, but am not sure of parts numbers or exact location. A picture of location or description would be nice.
go to http://www.magauto.com they have it for $48

Problem is, if you buy a new MR from Honda and you have the car long enough, chances are you will run into the same problem again. They havn't improved this part to make it more reliable, and why would they? It's a consistant moneymaker off old cars. I say re-solder if you can.

I'm confused, you looked at the exterior but you took it out of its main cover? just make sure this is the gray 3x2 box with the dark red base where the connector plugs in before you bust it open.

and good job on fixing it!
