'88-'89 had 200mm clutch and flywheel surface, while '90-'91 had 212 mm. That is for all the models, including si. However, it is possible that you are putting the pressure plate on the wrong way, I think there are 3 ways it looks like it can go on, but only 1 right way, try moving the pressure plate around. Its also possible you got a '90-'91 clutch and '88-'89 pressure plate.

this isn't for you, but anyone else who searches. 88's have a different spline count on the tranny, and therefore need a different setup totally.

but 89's have the same spline count as newer, just a different size clutch, which is all dependent on the flywheel. the flywheel was the same from 90 all the way to 2000 like jlicrx said.

88 Ed's have a 190mm flywheel
89 ed's have a 200mm
and 90-91 have a 212mm

your best bet would be to get a 90+ sohc flywheel the clutch is easier to find and its bigger. You can use a flywheel from any sohc 90 and up
